Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert at Blech, April 98, Powerhaus London

Wow. Was trying to find info about this gig I went to in April 98 in London and found this. I went to this party by myself (as I didn’t really know to many people in London when I was living there at the time). Luke played a full on old school electro set which basically blew my mind as I had never heard something like that in a club up to that point. Aphex’s set lasted all of 15 minutes before all the power went out. That was followed by the crowed yelling "Richie! Richie! BRING BACK THE POWER! BRING BACK THE POWERPILL."

Ironically the venue was called Powerhaus.

After they shut the party down I ran into this girl and her friends whom a vaguely knew and piled into a car and went to a house party who knows where in North London. They were all off their faces. Eventually I left this random house and completely lost somewhere north of Finsbury Park at dawn on a Sunday morning trying to find a tube station which wasn’t even running yet. No Googlemaps, only my tiny A to Zed. Somehow I managed to get back to my dorm in one piece around 8:30 or so. Ahh. Ravememories.

The BoC wiki has the date wrong and says it was April 99. It was definitely 98.
