Window Licker Japanese Demo Version

Recommended Posts

Yes, you can find it on the Japanese Version of Windowlicker. The Japanese version contains 2 more tracks than the UK/US versions do, although the UK double-EP release contains a track not on either the US or JAP releases, called "Windowlicker (original demo)".

The other track on the JAP CD release, "Windowlicker (End-Roll Version)" is the music used during the credits on the Windowlicker video. Another favourite of mine. Windowlicker happens to be one of my favourite Aphex Twin tracks he's ever done.

I've also heard an alternate mix of 'Equation' but it is not formally released anywhere to my knowledge. Anyone else heard it or know anything about its origins?

Love this track.

I'd like to hear this/acquire it if anyone has it.

This perhaps? I think Equation was originally "Crappy" but was overhauled for the Windowlicker EP... I'm not sure though

Also, does anyone know about the version of Windowlicker played during the beginning of the music video? It's pretty sick but I couldn't find anything about it.

I remember searching around frantically for the End-Roll Version. Then I found out it was on the Jap version... Never bothered getting it though.

does anyone remember how early this leaked onto the internet before it came out? It almost seemed like it leaked before anyone had even heard about it being released

that's awesome, wish it wasn't so low bit rate. Hearing this alternate version it sort of reminds me of Death Fuck

i cant say either of the demo versions really do too much for me. they are ok, but so short and non-eventful that they hardly seem worth listening to. if the homie tape were on one of the releases it might be worth caring. i'd cruise around stalking ladies to that.

And I attached all the versions I have of the "Equation" demo thing. They were posted here before so it shouldn't be an issue.

That hip-hop mix from the beginning of the video deserves a spot on some compilation album. The dirty compressed/distorted drums meeting the almost comical record scratching is lush.

Deserves... will it get it? probably not. We can be hopeful though. maybe he'll drop some huge comp some day.

Wow, I've never heard that Japanese demo version before. I love it. Thanks for sharing.

How does he come up with those weird little melodies? It reminds me of the track that steered me toward Aphex in the first place: that pig-snort track from further down the spiral, "The Beauty of Being Numb" (which does not sound like an Aphex title for a track; sounds like Reznor).

That was specially composed for the video - there was a rumour years ago that Vibert did it (Vibert was the one who first played early versions of Windowlicker live), but most likely Richard or Cunningham himself put it together for the video.

I think you're thinking of "At The Heart of it All" - that track too is what made me look more into Richard's work, even though I had heard Digeridoo and SAW 85-92 years earlier, and didn't know who it was by. AFAIK, Richard gave him some untitled tracks, and Reznor titled them to fit in with the EP.

Did Cunningham make music?

No, I'm thinking of "The Beauty of Being Numb part II", the one with the pig noises. I also really liked "At the Heart of It All", but it was the goofy piano thingy with the string instrument on "The Beauty..." that this reminds me of.

Ah, OK - I never cared too much for it since Reznor added to the track, and overall, it's not that interesting compared to ATHoiA. That song is brutal, and I would imagine it's an ICBYD-era track based on the sounds used in it.

I remember Richard doing a radio interview on some station and they played some of Equation. The host asked him what it was and Richard said it was some crap track he'll never release. Did a quick search to find it but nothing came up.

I think it was Mixing It on Radio 3 - according to Youtube that's from '95 though I can't play it due to country copyright restrictions.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
