Basically, mycorrhizae are tiny tendrils of fungus that connect a huge amount of plant life and allow them to communicate. Plants can learn immune responses to aphids, for example, from plants far away who have dealt with them. Scientists estimate there exist between 1.5 and 4 TONS of mycorrhizae per human on the earth.

This is the coolest fucking thing I've read in a long time. I'm in love with mycorrhizae. Planternet for most IDM 2014.

Plants were ahead of us all this time then?

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

They come from the ground. Put the foil hats on your feet.

that's AWESOME!

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

Thanks user487363530. And user4873635301. Now 48736353001.

Plants? No they're the alien lifeforms we all have been hoping for. No humanoids, but tiny tendrils of fungus. The emerging networks covering the planet far exceeding the complexity and intelligence of a human brain.

also, lol

So when I cut the grass, the grass I am coming up to cut is in fear as it knows what is going to happen?

Mushroom spores can exist for thousands, maybe millions of years in space and then germinate once reaching soil. Just sayin'.

Awesome. Some parasitic plants also incorporate mycorrhizal symbiosis to connect to the vascular tissue of their host/parent.

This stuff is pretty much exactly what I'm aiming to study and research in a couple/few years.

I would love to read more about that. That sounds crazy. Trojans!

As my girlfriend said, the parallels between our own internet are interesting, but theirs is far more advanced!

In what capacity will you be studying this stuff? That sounds amazing.

As wabby said apparently some types of fungal spores are perfectly fit for maintaining stability in harsh extraplanetary conditions. No evolutionary process on earth could create these qualities

They're so fucking aliens

Yes, we're onto something.

I'm sure they built those pyramids as well. No man could think of building giant triangular tombs, so it had to be the fungi controlling the minds of Egyptians. And it also explains why those pyramids have been built all over the world. It's a global network of fungi. Duh

I'm hoping to do some research with my college or something. I'm aiming to focus on fungal plant pathogens, and probably ways to prevent or cure such related diseases. Probably a bunch of crop stuff regarding wheat or something.
