Was EDM better when I was a wee lad?

felt nostalgic today and stumbled across this fine mix from the long forgotten Mr Bolland back in the time of legends...(mixing a little clunky btw)

There was a very fast evolution of electronic dance/ambient music around 93-94 before things got polished and pigeon holed for the clubs and raves became illegal.

I can't help but feel a warn nostalgia for the music here which to me still sounds relevant to a lot of the more analogue IDM/EDM/Braindance trends of late but does this mix still sound good to younger ears or does that 909 keep it in the 90's?

The Trance Europe Express series is another good example of this golden era.

Is it just me or maybe the drugs were a lot better back then?

Well the truly innovative stuff will always sound better, no matter when in an era it comes out in - typically though the most innovative stuff comes out when it's new and fresh, and everyone's not done everything to death yet.

EDM was definitely better before someone invented the horrible term EDM.

also IDM

also electronica

it's music, good music and bad music.

music you like and music you don't like.

I was all just called techno back then but say that now and it makes some people cringe.

tbh i just made the term 'EDM' up to see if anyone would notice :P

Well I think a little of the magic has gone. You know its true.

Though music is still good today, what's missing is the scene. All the raves, all the good drugs, all the record shops? That massive vibe has gone.

Music itself is alive but what is dead is the culture. We just tap on keyboards nowadays....not quite the same.

I remeber seeing Orbital touring the In Sides album at the Royal Albert Hall. It was almost like a religious experience.

Fuck em, everything is techno and I still call it that.

If people cringe I tell them if the wind changes their face will stay like that and then I punch them in the face.
