Any comment is worth giving. This was the first bit i've produced using new software. Still a bit of a struggle but found it not too overall a solid piece, and though it's not a difficult piece I'd probably toss it in as an etude. Not too mention the melody is harshly repetitive 3/4 through. I was thinking of sonic the hedgehog while making. to: the bro... there may be some more development later as i grab it by the jelly rolls

Hey man!

I dig the ideas, but if I were you I would dirty up the sounds so they don't sound so much like DAW factory patches.

Maybe try to find a way to get your own sound, instead of the default sound of the software you use. If you want your own thing, you gotta go beyond just drawing in the notes. If that makes sense.

"It's just a question of whether you're gonna go with the grain of the software or against it. You know, the software encourages you to work in a certain way...and that's the problem with the very power of the tools these days. You buy something like a groovebox, press two buttons and you've already got this full song, chugging along. You kinda have to work extra hard to avoid letting tools do things for you."

i really like the track, especially the melody that comes in at 0:23, but i get aswell the point limpy has mentioned, it sounds not really, regarding the sound or tone, like your own, there's a little feeling of 'factory patches'. (on my own i get the most interesting sounds due to experimentation)
anway - it's very playful and kept my attention along the entire track, everything fits well together. all in all it's definitely some funky spacy vibe you're going for :) great job

cheers

ya... True the heavy main drum line backed by the standard break is really the only originally recorded part from my sisters drum set. and a piccolo snare. all the synths are just basic waves that i practiced recording some automation on. It's all ableton which is too big for its own good as far as i am on the learning curve.... Maybe ill go get some of this reaktor stuff people have mentioned... it's a fun complement to the entertainment side of production but hasn't really gotten as much attention as the Renoise and Reason tossing back and forth style i usually do.

Then your stuff will sound like Reaktor factory sounds.

It doesn't matter what gear you use, man. It really doesn't. I promise. Most of the gear I use cost about $100. I use little Casio romplers and shit. But you twist them and smash them with reverb and compression then you pitch it up an octave, or you find batteries that are almost dead and throw those in the Casio so it sounds like it's dying, and now it has character and it's more expressive and it doesn't sound generic.

Settle on gear. Doesn't matter which. Ableton, Reakton, thumb piano, whatever. But then focus on mastering that gear. And then think about having a specific vision for the sorta music you want to make, and then sit down with your gear and try to coax out that music you envisioned.

That is quite the contribution to the forum as a whole. It's good writing like this that keeps people on their positive toes.

Thanks for the intellectual response that is rightfully native to my ideal vision of this collective.
