Recommend some good music books (not the fucking Pitchfork 500). I really should read more about the music I love, so give me some ideas. Any genre, from Motorhead to Bob Dylan to Kraftwerk to Beethoven to Sex Pistols. Go for it!!

Cheers

I second this - It's kinda old now but covers what I guess many would consider to be Warp's greatest period

And in a similar vein here's Ninja Tune's one which I got with the Ninja XX boxset a few years back - http://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Tune-Pieces-Labels-Unlimited/dp/1907317007/ref=pd_cp_b_0

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

charles mingus' autobiography "beneath the underdog" is pretty good. lots of jive talkin. tom waits on tom waits. revolution in the head, probably the best book about the beatles. miles by miles davis. ocean of sound by david toop. noise music by paul hegarty. please kill me, the oral history of punk. last night a dj saved my life. noise, water, meat.

This book inspired the shit out of me. Many people see Miles as a complete asshole, and while they may have a point, I found myself completely identifying with him and realized the importance of sticking up for yourself, as well as living life to the fullest.

john darnielle's "black sabbath - masters of reality" book for the 33 1/3 series.

thats been on my list for some time, thanks for reminding me.

just a brief last minute request/question here before i decide on an anchor book:

i'm doing my sophomore theme on the history of electronic music culture in europe (mainly during the 80's and 90's) and it's range of influences and cultures, as well as it's similarities and differences to the u.s. music scenes during the same general period.

i've found some promising works so far, but before i go with one of the options i've found i'd like to know if anyone has any suggestions on good sources?

this will of course have a more specific thesis in the near future, but right now a solid anchor book with a good bibliography (if possible) is what i need to begin developing that.
