my old gf asked me wtf the lyrics were to this song when i gave her a mix cd and then my friend just a while ago asked me the same question.. he was like sounds like the lyrics say "acid" something... i thought it sounded plausible maybe, cause it's a bit acidic sounding no?

So I have directed the combined force of my gear pool at this pesky little tune; I've tried listening over my laptop speakers, with headphones plugged directly into my DAC and my amp, sat in front of my monitors and three meters away, and I think the above comes very close. For me it sounds a bit more like: "I can soon be king / I can soon be king in the eyes of the world." The "soon" could also be a "still", which would probably make more sense, but it sounds more like "soon" to me. I'm very certain about "in the eyes of the world" though.

I agree, and that seems to be in line with this interpretation, so this is what I'm sticking with, even if a song about zombies might have been cooler.

Edit: Well, whaddaya know? I just googled "I could try to be big in the eyes of the world", and it's a Beach Boys lyric, taken from "That's Not Me" off Pet Sounds. I've heard that song dozens of times, but never realized. So I guess the riddle has really been solved over thirteen years ago. Thanks @bambina, wherever you are ...

Edit 2: The title might come from the phonetc similarity between the vocodered "eyes of the world" and "leather world", btw. 

Wow chaosmachine. Had to check that it was indeed a Tuesday in 2020 next to your post and not 2006 haha.

For me, it was always "rocking to thee beeeat. Rocking to the beat and he knows he can do". Even when I try to listen to it with the "solved" lyrics, I can't do it. 21 years is a long fucking time to try and undo lol.
