The plot involves a father who loses his job, but doesn’t want to tell his family while they’re at “the happiest place on Earth.” Apparently things go downhill from there…

Escape from Tomorrow was shot guerrilla-style, on the sly, at Disney World and elsewhere over a 45 day period. They returned to the amusement park several more times for pick-up shots.

Did you watch the trailer? I never saw a Simpson's episode quite like this. Full House got close one time though.

HAMLET: no
GHOST: why
HAMLET: fuck you is why

they talk about it in the interview i posted above. they used regular consumer cameras, and shot in black and white to make it look less like a found footage movie.

  • 2 weeks later...

I read something about this film...something to the effect of Disney being cranky they didn't get any say-so when it came to film permission or whatever.

It's pretty terrible. Sorry guys. I really wanted to like it. Bad acting, unlikeable characters, dodgy blue screen shots, story about pedodad having a mental breakdown leading nowhere interesting, basic symbolism repeated ad nauseum, incredibly pretentious, but mostly it's just very boring.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I agree with you on the most part but when you consider it in terms of independent film making it's not so bad.

If Disney sues at this point it will bring a huge amount of publicity towards the movie, and that may be exactly what they don't want. The reason being that one of their huge tent-pole movie franchise plans in the next 2 years is called 'Tomorrowland' which unlike Haunted Mansion and the Pirates movies, will actually feature in part aspects of the Disneyland theme park, i believe that all we know about the movie is that some aspect of 'tomorrowland' in disneyland is actually real and has some secret technology.

I saw it last night with friends. It was very watchable, laughed at parts. Its by no means a solid or great film. It's very uneven, has bizarre use of green screen to 'paste' together disjointed parts of the movie that he probably wasn't able to actually film in the park. Parts of it individually are awesome, but the movie as a whole falls a little flat.
the music in it was probably it's most impressive achievement, sounded very animated Disney movie esque and recorded with a real orchestra, very nice touch.

being filmed mostly in the Epcot center (not disneyland itself) i expected them to show a lot more of the weird and psychedelic rides there. They showed plenty of the architecture but barely anything ISNIDE any of the rides in epcot. The ride in the actual dome itself is a really weird and very dated hope towards the future technology ride. There is also a character in Epcot that is exclusively for that theme park called Figment, who is a flying purple dragon. I'm surprised we didn't see anything like that.
I'm actually not even sure they shot it in the real Disneyland, it seemed to me like it was shot all in Florida at the 'Magic Kingdom' (disneyland replica).

if anyone here has seen the Forbidden Zone, by Danny Elfman's brother starring the dwarf from Fantasy Island, The movie feels very outlandish in a similar way. It's a lot less like Gilliam and Lynch (like the marketing is claiming) and lot more like a silly early 80s psychedelic dark comedy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080752/?ref_=nm_flmg_msdp_69
