J3FF3R00
I did a search to see if there is a thread about this (it's likely) but the search function is fucked on mobile. I am no stranger to back pain, but I have gone for about 3-4 years without any real bad issues (aside for a month or two after we got our car... we use a lumbar support in the driver's seat, btw). ... Until today. Man. When you start getting older. The dumbest shit happens to you. I am a diligent "correct lifter", always bending the knees and lifting from the legs with the back straight. Today, I went to reach for my camera bag and only moved a matter of inches in the direction of the bag from a standing position and WANG!!! Shit got all kinds of fucked. I literally just barely bent my knees and reached out my hand and it threw my back out. It's all at the bottom of my spine and with that came a sharp searing pain along the side of my left leg, from my ankle, halfway up to my knee. I've taken 2 hot baths today, a bunch of ibuprofen, and heated a hot water bottle for it. It hurts to stand, walk or lie down. I'm afraid I'll need to see someone, ASAP. I was in bed and I sneezed and it felt like I was in one of those crazy torture scenes in Hellraiser. I screamed so loud from the pain and felt like I could have passed out. Does anyone have any tips? Typing from the floor with a rolled up towel under the small of my back. I had my legs elevated at a 45 degree angle until my feet lost circulation. I'm so angry right now. may be rude
back problems are really common and can be cripplingly painful and lead to expensive surgeries and opiate dependencies. i got through a disc issue. good tip for disc issues: pullups. they stretch your spine out, releasing pressure on the discs, sucking them back into less squished shapes. or if you aren't one for pullups, just hang from your hands for as long as you can. that's a good hand exercise, too. posture plays into it a lot. i found that my poor posture was caused largely by shallow breathing. breathing deeply allows me to keep my spine strait much more easily. this is actually cool for me because i'm into zen meditation and that's just breathing deeply, focusing on your breathing, and having a strait spine. you can do it throughout daily activity. so, my will to avoid recurring back issues is a motivation engine for my zen practice. One was full of shit and told me the only way to treat a funky neck issue I was having was to see him once or twice a week FOR YEARS! The other one I saw was a kinesthesiologist. He fixed my shit up good and proper with a little push and a few gentle rubs... only one visit. I'd go to him again but he's in Wisconsin. My advice would be do this start doing these excercises every other day when you feel better. One useful tip is to always try to do these excercises with your gluteus muscles tightened, because it helps straightening the lower spine. My flat mate have had back issues for years (spending 3 months every year in bed for three years cause of that) and he tried everything. He regained normal functioning once he started doing excercises daily and he has never had any real problems since then. So look out for some one who can suggest you the right excercises for your case and tell you the proper way of doing them. Another thing I'd suggest is to check on your mental balance. I'm not saying you're mad, but I'm saying that most of the times phisycal pain is due to some misbehaviour of the mind. For example, you are shy, your shoulders are rounded most of the times, in the end you have shoulder problems. That's because you put stress in your shoulders and muscular structure in that area is always crimpled, so you pay your attitude in your body. It may be that you put a lot of uncounscoius stress on your lower back and, for no apparent reason, your back starts hurting. But it's not physical, it may be also mental. Personally I started doing some kundalini yoga a year ago, and I feel I have much more understanding of how I discharge stress on my body. It's really subtle understanding but it helps you finding a balance between your mind and your body. You may choose any phisical activity that makes you aware of your body. I'm not talking body building, I'm talking about eastern martial arts or physical activities (aikido, tai chi, yoga, etc... ) In the end, my advice is: excercise! build those back muscles and find a way to relieve everyday stress. Good luck. p. Silent Member
Yeah, those exercises are good stuff, even if they don't look like much. I have something called Bechterews disease which is pretty fucking annoying, but those exercises help me keep it somewhat under control. Joyrex
Not all chiropractors are a scam... I go to one regularly, and so does my family. Do some independent research on how your spine becomes misaligned over time, and trauma (even minor incidents you might not consider "traumatic") can cause lasting effects on not only your back, but your overall health. LimpyLoo
Pain sucks. I have a weird pain disorder (probably psychosomatic) where sometimes things hurt 100x more than they should. I used to get a sharp pain in my leg when my cat would brush up against it. I'm talking the worst, most shrill pain I've ever experienced in my life. I thought I had leukemia for awhile. I'm more afraid of pain than actual death, I think. People say pain builds character, but personally I think persistent pain makes people numb and jaded to the beauty of the world.
