I have felt your pain, heard your cries, and finally, I have answered the longing bursting forth from your collective loins (well, perhaps not):

 

Google Search is here for the forums!

 

Simple to use - just use the search box as normal, but now you'll get a modal window that displays results from the forums only.

 

And yes, you can search for "idm" and get actual results that mean something.

 

I think the advanced search still uses the old engine, but who in the hell would use that...
