the insane level of detail in osx 3d maps

seriously, not only can you see the front of this billboard... but you can spin around and see the fucking back of it!!!

it might not be obvious from the pics, but these aren't hard-coded angles, you can just spin and zoom around freely. the whole city is like this. it's sort of weird and melty in places, but basically it's like zooming around gta in no-clip mode. insane.

soon, reality will be a life size model of itself. soon.

Yeah that kind of things in Apple Maps always made me wonder how they do it,;

I'm looking for a new house lately and, as I live in a big city and I don't have all of the time I'd need to go around and see neighborhoods flats are located in, I use Apple Maps to have an idea about them, and I find it quite useful for that.

(i'm talking about ios version tho, I bet OS X Maps are lots better)

How did they get all the necessary data? Streetview helicopters?
