Hello! I open this topic to talk about a thing I never talked before here, and I thought you might be interested.

What happens when an indie rock band tries to make IDM?

Well, sure it won't be as good as drukQs or Exai, but please take a listen to these two EP's of Piratas, a Spanish rock band from the 90's-early 00's.

Their music style was usually alt rock (now they've split up), but in the year 2003, they released two EP's of experimental/electronic b-sides. They sound nothing like their previous albums, and until the time they're two of the few IDM releases in Spanish music industry, as far as I know.

I would like you to listen a bit these releases, "RESPUESTAS" (Answers) / "DINERO" (Money) and tell me what you think.

Ignore the songs that give title to the album, they're the singles and they're less idm. I specially like Desfas, Goreki Sampler, Pi2.i&, Con Eva, Toms (the first part beats are so Autechre-ish), Virus, and 90000.

They're such rare albums, so I can't find links to download them. But in the links above you can hear a stream of all the songs (the site is in Spanish). You can also search the songs on Youtube, some of them are there too.

Thanks for taking time to consider this topic! :)

They were trying hard to be like Radiohead weren't they? I remember some controversy when they released Ultrasónica because they said in some interview they had become as good as them or something like that, back when hipsters wouldn't listen to anything but Thom Yorke and los Planetas. That album wasn't bad at all, actually.

There's some proper experimental bands, though. Francisco López, Eslendor Geométrico and Diseño Corbusier come to mind, and I'm sure there are others I don't know of. Sometimes Migala had a good piece or two that wasn't a complete snoozefest.

I was a kid on those years, of Ultrasónica and Relax releases, so I didn't know them at that time. I knew they wanted to be like Radiohead, but not that they said they felt superior than them O_o

Anyway, they will still be one of my favourite spanish bands.

PD: I'll check those ones you said at the last paragraph, thanks!
