Favorite Tried by 12 Remix?

I've got to go with Autechre. One of my favorite remixes of all time - the vocal processing is incredible. But the competition is steep! The Funkstorung mix is beautiful. The Squarepusher mix is some cracked out hyphy shit. The Freeform mix has a great bassline. The Trapazoid mix is amazing. Anyone know who Trapazoid is? That track is IDM as fuck. Take your pick!

Trapazoid is Richard Devine! And yeah - that's a tough question to ask. They're all pretty excellent in their own ways.

I always wondered how it came to pass that some obscure/mediocre late-90s american thug rap track got remixed by the electronica illuminati of the time... would love to know the story behind this.

The Squarepusher one - nothing else even comes close, not even the original terrible song. How was this ever some kind of classic?

It happened because Ninja Tune and Chocolate Industries in the US somehow got a hold of it and wanted remixes. Idk?

Yeah, guess I'm just curious to know the events that precipitated this... was the original a hit (relatively speaking) in the UK? Who came up with the idea, how'd they go about getting such a class group of remixers aboard with the project, etc.? Ko-Wreck Technique and Herbaliser were the only ones on Chocolate/Ninja at the time (Ae & SP already had a healthy symbiosis going with Ninja Tune & Solid Steel as well), though from discogs it appears that it was licensed from Chocolate to Ninja Tune - my first guess would've been that it was the other way around. Anyway props to whoever made this improbable collection of remixes happen.

It's actually the only one I've heard.

EDIT: Actually, just realised I had heard the Richard Devine/Trapezoid mix. It was on one of those Farmers Manual sets (

Link - about 10 mins in. Really like that one too.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Agree completely that the original is terrible, and yet I still like it in a perverted kinda way

And whenever I hear the intro on the SP remix it always sounds like he's saying "to my man river phoenix, rest in peace!"

Ohh nice, thanks.

The original is good IMO. I never listen to it, because the production is so much more interesting on all the remixes. But I definitely like the vocals, especially the way they're treated in the AE mix.

This is definitely my favourite.
