Guest bleepsnbloops
Hi! First post here, so, sorry if this is in the wrong section. Anyway, looks like there's a new Plastikman album on the way... https://twitter.com/richiehawtin/status/397506823714275329 Possibly called 'EX(plorations)' http://instagram.com/p/gTWl0INfQa/ Richie did his first show in a while as Plastikman the other day, at Guggenheim museum in New York. He played loads of new materiel, so I collected the best vine videos and tried to piece them together.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dvaoPCy9Mo Thoughts? Amen Lare
Well, i was a fan of Plastikman back in the day, there isn't a single one bad album by him, but i lost him immediately after he put this project to sleep and focused on being a trendy big name DJ. His label m_nus released total shit for years since then. Basically, i think he lost the touch completely and album would be a reiteration of past styles. Thread should be in New & Upcoming releases section of the forum Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/81182-new-plastikman-album/#findComment-2090057 Share on other sites
Guest
I'll check it. I don't expect 'Sheet One' or 'Musik', who would, but I'm always curious about any Plastikman release. He has a lot of sets uploaded to his SC (https://soundcloud.com/richiehawtin) and yeah, they're all passable. Nothing mind-blowing or particularly challenging but he is consistent in what he plays, which is kind of safe but makes him useful if you need a tech-house/Minimal Techno fix I can't imagine what he's doing now will be as thematically introspective as Closer but sonically some of the tracks he played at Guggenheim sound very close to things like 'Ask Yourself' and 'Ping Pong'. Guest Ciderfeks
Be nice to hear a return to some acid on the new album... Bleepsnbloops, were you at the Guggenheim gig? From the clips it sounds like a lot of people were more interested in chatting than hearing his set? I saw his show at Brixton in 2011 and that was pretty awesome. I just cobbled together all the clips I could find from instagram/vine I think it was a Dior fundraiser type event for the museum. Which I guess explains the disinterested crowd. Though, it's kind of disappointing that he chose to debut brand new material at a place where most people wouldn't even notice, let-alone pay the music any attention. Fingers crossed for a proper tour. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/81182-new-plastikman-album/#findComment-2090163 Share on other sites

Props Must say that it sounds decent at best, not impressive. Will check the album out, but I think he should leave Plastikman retired. I saw Plastikman live in 2011 or so, and it was way too much focussed on the visuals and technical blabla which I really don´t care about + it made everyone just stand with their crappy iPhone filming the whole gig or watching it through some app and not experiencing anything of the music. I also agree 100% with this post: On 11/8/2013 at 7:42 PM, Amen Lare said: Well, i was a fan of Plastikman back in the day, there isn't a single one bad album by him, but i lost him immediately after he put this project to sleep and focused on being a trendy big name DJ. Guest
I was able to catch the Lowlands performance of Plastikman in... 2010 I think. It was a pretty intense show in all honesty (Thank you XTC) Then again, I wasn't melted by The Aphex Twin yet (which happened in 2011) and all psychoactives that go with it, which completely changed my outlook on what music is. What a journey. I was somewhere in front, which was the weirdest -edit- I think I was right next to this guy. Guest
Oh right, the topic. Eh, got carried away by reminiscence Let's see what will come out. I don't really think Hawtin can live up to his Plastikman brilliance anymore: IMO, it was all thrown overboard when he decided to become a superstar DJ and move to Berlin, and be all cool and dandy. Not too mention that horrible M_nus crowd, and complementing music.. and DJ's. Such boring ass shit, which is very deep if you're a shallow cunt. Ah well. dr lopez
richie is a lot smarter than people give him credit for... he's serious about his art but he's always expressed that he really does what he wants to do for himself - he honestly wants to have tons of fun and DJ "passable" sets and party with sven and whomever is around - he's lives a charmed life. gotta pay for that somehow. Also important to remember that richie's music life started around fun parties - not jsut sitting in his room geeking out and planning a grand artistic statement that would appease likeminded dorks. No doubt he could hunker down, lock himself up and come out with a new *killer* plastikman album, but he has a certain joie de vivre that others don't... esp people (afx) who claim their music is "only for themselves" when in fact it reeks of social insecurity. I respect that even though I know he'll never top Recycled Plastik or Consumed or Musik or Sheet One. KGW
He's absolutely dreadful now. Did you see that video of him playing at ENTER. at Space in Ibiza where he pretty much forgot he was DJing because he was too busy schmoozing in the booth and then took over a minute to choose his next tune, which was just as shit as his last one. He did it numerous times and shortly thereafter STAGE DIVED into the crowd. Tosser. He used to be excellent though no doubt and it's a damn shame. I remember seeing him at The End in London along with Magda and Gaiser. It was the night before NYE a fair few years ago (maybe 6). It was pretty incredible. That was, to me, when M_nus was good. doublename
Ex preview EX (Live at the Guggenheim NYC) by Plastikman Download available June 10th; Vinyl, CD, and a limited edition SubPac bundle on July 14th (11th DE, 15th USA).Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, recorded EX at the Guggenheim, New York's iconic art museum. This very special performance was at the invitation of influential Belgium fashion designer and artistic director at Dior, Raf Simons, for the Guggenheim's annual fundraiser, performed around a specially constructed LED obelisk.Richie Hawtin explains, "I knew that Raf was a long time Plastikman fan so by accepting his offer to perform at the Dior event at the Guggenheim I knew I'd set myself up to a huge challenge. Although Raf was happy to have the already complete Plastikman Live 1.5 show, I locked myself away in a series of intense studio sessions and quickly recorded enough new material for the performance and realized I might also have enough for a complete new album. The music came out of me effortlessly as I was very inspired by the opportunity to play in this beautiful architectural space renowned more for art than music. The location also allowed me to step far away from the dancefloor, giving me a huge amount of freedom to EXplore any sonic ideas that I had. Art, music, architecture, painting, sculpture -- these mediums are supposed to live together."TRACKLISTINGEXposed EXtend EXpand EXtrude EXplore EXpire EXhale Edited June 5, 2014 by doublename Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/81182-new-plastikman-album/#findComment-2172118 Share on other sites
