That DJ Rashad thread in Music Discussion made me realize there's no proper thread about Double Cup in here.

1 Feelin' (feat. Spinn & Taso)
2 Show U How (feat. Spinn)
3 Pass That S**t (feat. Spinn & Taso)
4 She a Go (feat. Spinn & Taso)
5 Only One (feat. Spinn & Taso)
6 Everyday of My Life (feat. DJ Phil)
7 I Don't Give a Fuck
8 Double Cup (feat. Spinn)
9 Drank, Kush, Barz (feat. Spinn)
10 Reggie
11 Acid Bit (feat. Addison Groove)
12 Leavin' (feat. Manny)
13 Let U No (feat. Spinn)
14 I'm Too Hi (feat. Earl)
Have been listening to this on spotify the last few days, this record has really surprised me. It's awesome, references to classic jungle and house abound. Really rooted in history but still fresh. Definitely in my top 5 for 2013.

I've been "spinning" this as well, during my highway commutes. Show U How is my fav trac - just sexy vocals and lush beats all around. Might be a while before Rashad catches on with the rest of the younger populace in my geographical region tho. lelol

I remember in the vapor city thread ganus said he was going to see DJ Rashad instead of Machinedrum during the decibel festival and I thought it was a bit crazy. After listening to this album a few times, and experiencing the limp vapor city live show, I'm thinking I should have done the same thing.

Ugh. I saw him and Spinn open for Chance the rapper tonight.

He had a good 45 minute set where he just played mainstream rap. I was really hoping I'd see an actual opening act and not just a fluffer for the main act. I guess you can debate "sticking to your shit even if the crowd doesn't like it", vs crowd pleasing.

There was a point too where a bunch of us started yelling "play some footwork", "play some juke", and Spinn finally acknowledges us and puts on Feelin' (Double Cup opener). Ok sweet, some people start doing some silly twitchy dance moves, small group of us cheering.

Nope. Room of 500+ people just starts standing still. I've never had so much disdain for a crowd ever. Fucking casuals. 2 songs later they give up and go back to some trap and then...Drake. Crowd pleaser after crowd pleaser :(

At the end of his set I don't even think they were that impressed either. He kinda just walked off the stage. Woes of being an opener I guess. I'd probably still try and see him if he was a main act though. The music has so much potential to be played live.

I tried my best to enjoy Chance. He was pretty charismatic and it was fun up until he started covering Coldplay.

That's too bad. I have to assume that the majority of the crowd never heard of footwork/juke let alone Rashad and Spinn? I'm no better, I never heard of Chance.

Rashad and Spinn are lovers of hip-hop, so I dunno if they would have felt out of place.

Crowds are getting weird. I saw Grimes at ACL and Kendrick Lamar was after her. A sizable portion of the crowd were high-school age zombie-esque bros and their female equivalents. Many of them barely moved.

yeah only one is one tight track..

drank, kush barz is also amazing - as it just starts out as a slow hip hop track but then becomes amen cut-up juke.

leaving is also great - rashad doing a machinedrum track?? me thinks.

Did you stay for the post-show performance? The show I went to + many others, Spinn and Rashad performed all-footwork sets after Chance.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkk.

Actually now that I think about it, I saw after party posters and promos for other cities (Seattle in particular), but when I looked there then and even now there is no mention of anything that went down in Vancouver.

Decided to pick this up and give it a go, finding myself enjoying it. I only liked a handful of tracks on the first Bangs & Works comp on Mu, but this is certainly on a higher tier in terms of production. It seems less concerned with the 'machinegun fire' arms race that resides among the Juke crowd, and more about creating a smooth vibe. In places, it faintly reminds me of early Luke Vibert... Plug-era, perhaps? I think I unfairly dismissed it upon hearing short previews, probably not the best way to absorb the album. In conclusion, I'm glad I gave it a proper chance.

So I got a chance to see Rashad last night at a private party. Was a complete blast of a two hour set. Chatted with him after the show and he is a super down to earth guy who loves the shit out of what he does. Makes sense that he's the most present/touring/released chicago juke artist around these days -- I hope he's really making it as a touring musician. I saw people mentioning than he just plays mainstream hip hop at shows now, but the crowd was grooving to whatever he played at he stuck mostly to his material and other juke releases. Played most of Double Cup in one form or another -- the highlight being drank kush barz laid on top of acid bit -- those two mixed surprisingly well and everyone lost their shit. Other highlight was his closer - it's more fun to compute at 160 BPM with a sample of "awwhhh hyaahhhh" just repeated and repeated. Mad fun.

If anyone gets a chance to see him, I would recommend!!

Funny that watmm likes him, never would expected that. Anyway it's dope shit :emotawesomepm9: I love to mix the copped up vocals around 130 BPM with some UK Bass tunes...

Returning to this a fair bit lately. Lush flow, pleasing samples... it has future classic written all over it, regardless of what happens with footwork in general. Such a shame we won't be hearing any more from Rashad (RIP), would love to have seen where he went next with his sound.
