lots of rear engine high HP cars end up like that. In general, that's why rear engine vehicles are not the norm, safety reasons....

You mean electric power-assisted steering or real steer-by-wire? It's definitely not the latter and I think it's a regular hydraulic power steering system, since they found hydraulic fluid on the road and apparently they're considering the possibility of a mechanical defect. Regardless of its possible malfunctioning that car model has somewhat of a 'widowmaker' reputation though.

Considering it took out a light pole broadside, wrapped itself around a tree and exploded, the car was always going to look bad. One of these went into a wall at 100+ mph (I think going 160-165 at the point where it left the asphalt) at a track some years ago killing both occupants but it stayed mostly in one piece. I don't think this crash will have been as fast although it certainly ended up looking even worse.

Oh shit... you think Vin Diesel had something to do with it? I'm gonna go with yes.
