Anyone here have the original silver vinyl pressing? How does it sound? I only ask because Warp's coloured records from that era are notorious for hissssss.

I have it, it does indeed sound like absolute shite.

here it is, snippets of a few tracks so you get a rounded idea of how it sounds.

if you look closely, you can actually see fucking holes in the grooves. no idea what was going on with Warp's pressings back then.

just to elaborate, the LP is clean - no dust in the grooves or anything like that. this is just how bad the silver pressing is.

What did they do? I got THC and it sounds fine, though I don't have a comparison to the original pressing.

I'd say I agree.

I understand why some people call it dated, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of it at all. Eggshell, Doctrine, WindWind and 444 are classics.

Simply great tunes. Which isn't easy to pull off, then or now. I always thought it was their homage to Detroit and the limited sonic palette is what gives the LP it's charm. Not bad for some 19 year old kids with a 4 track.

there are problems with the recent represses which have been catalogued extensively here on WATMM and (I would assume) on twoism.org.

Also love Windwind and 444. But Amber is still my preference. Even though it might be only because Amber (and Chiastic Slide) was my first real touchpoint with Autechre.

I can remember an interview with Ae where they commented on Incunabula with something like "I can't believe how naive we were back then". Listening to Incunabula I can relate to that. Though, it still is a classic but more bound to the time it was created than later releases.
