Everything You Do Is A Balloon

Recommended Posts

I first heard this song back when I was 14. I would like to say that it got me completely hooked on good music, but alas, I was an impressioable young lad and decided to walk amongst the flock.

It wasn't until 11 years later that I finally got into BoC music. Coincidentally with me extracting myself from the maelstrom

Ahh the song that got me into BoC and subsequently AFX/AE and this forum.

I had a mix that was poorly put together of random BoC that i had downloaded. there were crickets buzzing at the end of the version i had on the mix, but otherwise still sounds as big as it does to me now.

Those big harmonizing synths that play before the beat kicks in always sounded so dark and sinister, and i remember the hairs on the back of my neck standing up every time. I love the way they slowly morph into a more empathic tone.... I used to play tenor sax and the melody always reminded me of some rich sounding lush ;) as fuck electronic saxamophone

I gave that mix cd to a friend and the following week he owns a copy of MHTRTC which quickly prompted me to buy it and the rest is history.

Oh and the intro is haunting and i remeber thinking it was interesting and strange, but wasn't sure if i liked it or not and that i'd never heard anything quite like it before. Defiantly one of their most accessible tracks, but also one of their best.

It's a quite simple and yet very emotional track for sure. I actually don't play it that often because I don't want it to wear off.

Yep, same here.

It stirs some strange feelings each time I hear it, certainly up there with the best.

The synths really are good in this one. I haven't actually listened to BoC extensively, but man, this one is good. Lush as fuck. Especially that synth that kicks in at 3:33. The percussion works just fine - nothing in the track needs to be more complex or different. I think most of this song is triangle waves.

It was the top track on Spotify because Hi Scores was the only release available the reissues + Tomorrow's Harvest came out in October :emotawesomepm9:

But it's appropriate, it's quintessential BoC - intro sounds like their trademark interlude melodies, there's that nostalgic 70s synth bit at 1:37 right before the main part of the song kicks off. Hypnotic drum beat, beautiful loops come in and out. I put it on a playlist I made for driving through the West Texas desert. It was a perfect soundtrack to the landscape.

The percussion and the tempo is absolutely perfect.

Listening closely for the first time in years... Percussion is heavier and grittier than I remember it being. Yeah, it'd be a shame to change that aspect. Y'all are right, EYDIAB is pretty much flawless for what it is.

Yeah I had that version from file sharers back in the early 2000s as well. I latter found out that it is from the aforementioned 'Skampler' compilation, with the Crickets being the lead-in to a very Bolaesque Gescom track called 'Stoop'.

I turn to telephasic when I want to show someone some "IDM" or whatever - fantastic rhythm, synth, samples all adding up to a magical atmosphere.

Roygbiv might be my favourite BoC track
