lyst
After a rough past few months, I've landed my new apartment in the city and got my set-up rolling. Was waiting for that urge to create and it came back with a vigor. Aptly titled. I strayed from my more robotic percussion for a more fluid natural sounding array this time. Figured it would be a bit more accessible. Enjoy. https://soundcloud.com/mylamine/mylamine-home Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide lyst's signature Hide all signatures my choons. DorkingtonPugsly
I enjoyed that, thank you. :> I like how you fused rhythms and harmonies together with all your sounds. At first I was wondering where it was all going but then I got it, and it was nice! Squee
I agree with Dorkington. It's one of those tracks that you have to listen to from start to finish to appreciate it or else it'll just sound weird because of the crazy harmonies :) I'm usually not a big fan of excessive amounts of sidechain but this works surprisingly well :) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/81762-home/#findComment-2111365 Share on other sites
Npoess
Overall I like the sounds of this. But I think you should try some else for the beat, it is slightly awkward sounding. But it really has potential. Oddly enough I was trying something DIFFERENT than I usually do with this beat. So i was outside of my comfort zone. My album i just dropped has a little bit more of the beat style i'm used to-- http://mylamine.bandcamp.com/album/mylamine ... Just felt like freshening things up with this one. Needless to say, it felt good creating something again. And it was FUN - which is important. cruising for burgers
my main complaint is the hihats and snare samples, they sound too much like normal drums, make them a bit more crispy and organic, elastic something like that, put butter on it, take them to the oven. harmony speaking i love this, maybe some spacious pads here and there would add a nice spacey feeling and open the track a bit more, oh and put the bass more upfront. that is all. Lucas
I didn't find the beat awkward, I like the fact it's a little bit wonky, and it goes well with the off-kilter chords. I liked this track, it has a nice hip hop atmosphere ! The only thing which I found strange is the transition in the middle, I think I know what you're going for there but it sounds pretty unnatural as it is, mainly because you cut the volume completely. I guess it would sound smoother if you don't cut it but just bring it to a low level. Using more reverb at this place could also sound nice. Guest od++
yeah the off kilter beat is textural and to taste, i dig that lovely production, nice little touches panned right out to the sides filling it out that open hat could be improved by some band subtraction lfo, i love doing that on hats when im doing downtempo stuff vocal sample sits nicely I'm a huge fan of sidechaining, but dont think if often works with this kinda thing, but it really does here love how it fades out and then comes back in tight yo Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/81762-home/#findComment-2113945 Share on other sites

ZoeB
I think you're overdoing the sidechain compression, try being a bit more subtle with it. And the track's really out of tune. Assuming that's not on purpose, check you're using actual chords and there aren't any stray notes. (It takes a while to get the hang of this, but it's totally worth it.) The production side's nice and you do a bunch of neat things, you just need to bring the actual notation up to that high standard. lyst
Not really into the hardcore technical shit of music making. Just spent years making stuff that flows through me and is good to my own ears. That won't change. Thanks for your comment though. Song is up for free DL now. https://soundcloud.com/mylamine/mylamine-d-omus Fucked with it a little bit more. Thiefinger
Am I late for the party? Well anyway I will have my say! The deliberately out of tune -synth (or is it the synth or something else) sounds a bit overdone to My ears but it's a stylistic choice so it's really just my problem as a listener. Overall this sounds very soothing, clear and smooth. Overall this sounds very soothing, clear and smooth. Thanks man. You are correct on the stylistic points of this track. I'm not even going to try to justify anything anymore, Lol. My girlfriend was like, "nice song but the second half with the hard buzzing noise was wretched to my ears". I found actual solace in her saying this though. She likes rock and Slipknot and that kind of shit. I told her to never listen to my music because she won't enjoy it and it will never make sense. Too much of an acquired taste. Was definitely going for the smoothness you mention with this one. Not quite as frantic as my other stuff I released this past year. All my output is based on what i'm going through in my life.
