Rbrmyofr
Was listening to some old Akufen and was reminded of VHS Head: Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Rbrmyofr's signature Hide all signatures https://splitradix.bandcamp.com/ Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/82011-vhs-head-recursor/ Share on other sites
Terpentintollwut
Reminds me of Meatbingo. I'm not sure exactly who he is though, some people said it's actually early stuff by VHS Head, but I don't think it is ... ? https://soundcloud.com/meatbingo/bomb-the-80s Anyway, imo VHS Head's stuff is far superior to the track from the OP, but it was released in 2002, so ... zkom
The Akufen track sounds more like Discovery-era Daft Punk than VHS head to me. zkom
Thinking about this I'd say Hexstatic would be a good precursor candidate for VHS Head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpMC2_SCY7w And Emergency Broadcast Network (1995).. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhZ_UygGnN0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dh0iEkDEkU But I'd guess there's lots of artists even before that that used the cut up movie/tv sample aesthetic. The KLF and the Orb come to mind at least Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide zkom's signature Hide all signatures electro mini-album Megacity Rainfall "cacas in igne, heus" - Emperor Nero, AD 64 Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/82011-vhs-head-recursor/#findComment-2118211 Share on other sites
Schlitze
It's VHS Head lite. It's Betamax Head aka Discovery era Daft Punk vs Byron Stingily. gmanyo
I like Akufen quite a bit, especially the "My Way" album, and his work as Marc LeClair is cool too. He does sound a bit like VHS Head; he's definitely at least a minor figure in the history of sampling, and possibly the biggest figure in microhouse. Goiter Sanchez
One of the more compelling 'precursors' I've heard is this Jackson and His Computer Band track: On 1/21/2014 at 6:59 PM, Terpentintollwut said: Reminds me of Meatbingo. It shares some of the same samples that I've heard on TRoG as well! Really cool at any rate!
