Reminds me of Meatbingo. I'm not sure exactly who he is though, some people said it's actually early stuff by VHS Head, but I don't think it is ... ?

Anyway, imo VHS Head's stuff is far superior to the track from the OP, but it was released in 2002, so ...

The Akufen track sounds more like Discovery-era Daft Punk than VHS head to me. :cisfor:

Thinking about this I'd say Hexstatic would be a good precursor candidate for VHS Head.

And Emergency Broadcast Network (1995)..

But I'd guess there's lots of artists even before that that used the cut up movie/tv sample aesthetic. The KLF and the Orb come to mind at least

I like Akufen quite a bit, especially the "My Way" album, and his work as Marc LeClair is cool too. He does sound a bit like VHS Head; he's definitely at least a minor figure in the history of sampling, and possibly the biggest figure in microhouse.

One of the more compelling 'precursors' I've heard is this Jackson and His Computer Band track:

That sure sounds like VHS Head! It shares some of the same samples that I've heard on TRoG as well! Really cool at any rate!
