Wayne Smith, 1965-2014

Man behind what is arguably the greatest riddim of all time has passed away from a heart attack at age 48. Although Lloyd "King Jammy" James produced it, Wayne Smith was the inaugural toaster and recorded the definitive version. It's one of those amazingly resilient and overly simple melodies I somehow never tire of.

 

Personally I first came across it via Soundmurderer & SK-1 via dancehall one-hit wonder John Wayne, who used infamous riddim.

A true classic rhythm, I remember a friend of mine telling me when he first heard it in a club in the 80's on dubplate, it blew everyone away...

^Yeah that's a classic version, love the build-up. I heard that one on a local dub show a couple years ago.

My thoughts upon seeing this thread were that Wayne Cone and Will Smith had a love child who tragically passed away..
