So I might need to send a painting from the Uk to the US. I looked at the royail mail calulator and It says It will cost £12.

Is there something I'm missing, that just seems so cheap. Anyone else done anything similar?

I'm a dunce, and I need you to hold my hand through it :(

Here's the painting , Cloud from FFVII

OOH, any idea how I can advertise it more, I've done reddit so far.

Thanks very muchly you wonderful people.

Hey Pete.

Will this be an ongoing thing or a one-off? Do people use Etsy for paintings? There's also a neat site called Fancy.com which seems to be primarily about (un-licensed) merch, so you could take a squiz there

Well, I was thinking about doing it more. It doesn't take me long to do work like this. Good point about Etsy. I plan to Keep scans off the artwork to sell maybe on there. That raises a question though, can I sell prints if I no longer own the original? :/

Dude, I don't know what I'm doing do I?

if its on stretched canvas, you should always (!) at least wrap it 1-2 times all around in bubble wrap and then put it in some strong carton, otherwise it's probably gonna get royally fucked up. if its very sensitive (large bright surfaces, very thin paint, very thick impasto that could easily break) some silk paper as a first wrap may be a good idea.

dedicated shipping crates and art handlers are ridiculously expensive though. so 19" is like 50 cm right? maybe you can get some kind of xxl-family-size pizza carton that you reinforce with more carton..

declaring value and insurance may also be a problem when you ship stuff overseas. i think you have to pay duties if you declare any value, but i'm not an expert on that

can't edit, so concerning selling scans: you most definitely can. i don't know the laws in different countries, but at least in germany there are different rights like (roughly translated) the "right of the author" and a "usage right" and so on. its probably the same with copyright or similar concepts - e.g. rdj would retain the copyright of the rdj album even if he sold the master dats (except for when there's some sort of explicit contract, like in doing work for a company, concept art, much of design...) - its just harder to proof that (in case someone wants to fuck you over) youre the author. taking a photo with the original and todays newspaper and keeping a copy of the sales contract should always be enough.. but im also not an expert on that, maybe some design ppl/illustrators here are?

Thanks Marian. It's acrylic paint so Its pretty tough (I hope). Yeh I'm definitely going to bubble wrap it. I'll have to look for a good box too, not sure about finding a pizza box big enough though. Yeh If I say its worth £100 on the postage calculator, the postage goes up to £18

It's complicated because the work is pretty much a copy of the art in the actual game. So I'm not sure about selling it. I'm not too bothered about it regarding this painting but It's interesting to know if I carry on with this type of work.
