Mellow U
Hm. Not feeling this at all, really. It's too meandering and bleepy, missing the melodic side of his previous stuff that I loved. The ending couple minutes are nice enough but they don't make up for the rest of the long ass track! Guest Jimmy McMessageboard
maybe this explains why it is different Quote "The record is mostly made up of live recordings” explains Luke. “Some were recorded at a performance at Wysing in front of a very small audience and some were recorded in a temporary studio I had setup during my residency.” "There was a large emphasis on improvisation during the whole process. A lot of what has ended up on the record was originally recorded as first-takes or sketches of ideas." Mellow U
Makes more sense, for sure. I will still probably give the album a chance then. I'm just spoiled by his melodies on tracks like Brazil and Modern Driveway. Stellar stuff! ravedamage
'Amphis (reprise)' just fucking slays me. It's got that mournful euphoria thing I also get from 'Stone in Focus'. Guest Jimmy McMessageboard
gave this a listen yesterday and still not sure. it definitely doesn't have the immediacy of anything he has done before but on the other hand it is a cohesive album.needs more listens Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/82825-luke-abbott-wysing-forest/#findComment-2180960 Share on other sites
ravedamage
Aye, it's a totally different thing to Drones, innit. Spoke to him a wee bit the past year and he's so into winging it these days…given his old band Mono On Mono (Norwich - 2002ish...he used to drums and keys) just improvised live and on the spot...it's real sweet to see. He remixed our band Tonkl just after he'd started art college (precocious cunt), and seeing us improvise live and hearing us DJ wonky shite in the Playhouse bar in the early 00's apparently helped him in not giving a fuck about what happened in the live musics arena, so it's great to see him freed up of them music industry constraints. Plus, you have low overheads, living back in the Norfolk Shire, so I reckon he's only gonna get much weirder and better, not having to worry about sales…we're the lucky ones, really… *sucks Luke's dick hard*...
