Unless I'm missing something, this is essentially the 5-year comp with all the wonky artists swapped out for footwork ones.

I haven't had a close look at the 5 year comp tracklist apart from a few select tracks but it does indeed look footwork-heavy.

on a tangential note, I don't understand why Spaceape gets so much hate. I love his voice.

^ agreed. He's one of those dudes I'd have a hard time taking in a full album of (same for certain MCs like busdriver and lyrics born), but when he's on the right track he's great. This track pretty much encompasses a large part of my worldview atm:

word, word. great lyrics. the Bug version is one of my go-to angryman tunes.

but yeah, like, if you listen to Kingstown, Spaceape's voice just sounds so fucking good on there. deep, mellifluous, assured. great flow in sync with the beats/bass, and his lyrics totally spark the imagination.

some people find Kode9's stuff boring/simple, which I think factors into their dislike of Spaceape, but I have no problem with either. Memories of the Future was an essential record. in my mind there is a connection between that record and Children of Men (on account of Backwards being used in the film) so whenever I hear the darker tunes on there like Kingstown or Sine or 9 Samurai I straight-away think of that world and relate Spaceape's words to that.

perhaps you've heard it already but Spaceape did a short EP of dub poetry type stuff over his own (? I think) production. iirc the inspiration for it was living with cancer. I had mixed feelings about it but it's an interesting little oddity.

I love the first compilation, but not really feeling this one. Seems to be very heavy on the footwork side of things.
