Enlighten an old fart

I can't say I promise to be around forever, or long, but seeing the CW news and coming back to watmm after many years away is a nice trip of nostalgia for me. I joined in 2001, abouts, when watmm launched from being joyrex.com. I'm sure some of the old fogeys will remember me.

Pardon the self indulgence.

What's the latest with the old crew? I see delet and joyrex here obviously. What of McGriff? Essines? Sinicalypse? Theocide? Wisp? ChenGod? Thanksomuch? Echidna? MCSpatula? Quantazelle? That one guy with the beard from Argentina? I'm forgetting a lot. I apologize.

I thought I saw something about the stolen DAT music getting posted? Maybe Richard hasn't released a record proper due to my absence? :) I still keep in touch a bit with the music scene (mostly Ghostly International, the BOC record was amazing last year, finally saw Squarepusher in concert at Movement:Detroit last year). Any stuff I should be checking out in the IDM scene or has everyone moved on to dubstep and whatever bass heavy off-time slop fad Planet Mu puts out? :)

So many good memories around here.

I guess we all have to move on, sometime. There are other communities. Interests change. People grow families. Watmm will always be a nice part of my past, though. Meeting up with people at shows, having someone take my friend in from the London streets when he ran out of money on vacation, all the support for my utter shit music (I still dabble, but rarely).

As for myself, not too much to report other than being an adult, now. Graduated, steady job for quite a while now in the intellectual property field. No kids for me to make listen to Flim yet. Traveled a bit, with more to go.

This is really interesting to me, I joined in 2008 after lurking a year or so. Didn't post properly for awhile (my first 1000 posts were quite annoying too probably)

I know for sure Wisp is still around, as is Chen. Older watmm will surely fill you in about the others.

The DAT tape was pretty cool, eventually a full lossless version leaked. At first it was 1 minute snippets posted here on the forum. Came out of a thread on Q-Chastic. It's funny seeing how little all the press on this is mentioning the "Joyrex Tape" or other scrapped projects like the Green Calx EP or MFM

This thread will make me sad.

Not saying I don't have a copy from before (or that I do), for some reason, but maybe the quality on this is better ;)

Jesus, it's a blood bath. May I ask what Fred got banned for? He was pretty levelheaded back when I was around. The thoughts of MC Spatula being an adult are really hilarious to me. Hope to see Essines and chen drop by this thread.

Oh got, Zelah, that was that curly haired kid who was really awkward? And then there was the Leah drama where a bunch of people stalked that poor girl who had a blog and big eyebrows and then she came on the forums and it was super weird. And then she got married and had a kid?

It seems like autechre really never captured their pre-gantz graf magic, maybe fleetingly so. Squarepusher's last album was half a dud, too. The Boards album last year warmed my heart, though. Some things are better with age.

Most of us old Joyrex.com cats that are still around just lurk in the shadows, popping our heads out every now and then when there is something juicy happening with Aphex, BoC, AP, etc...

You should stick around for a while this time, might make me post a bit more often if I see some familiar names of old contributing on here again!

I just realized my Join date says 2005, is there a way I can change that to when I originally joined in the Joyrex.com days?
