The noise - nicknamed "the bio-duck" - appears in the winter and spring in the Southern Ocean. However, its source has baffled researchers for decades.

Now acoustic recorders have revealed that the sound is in fact the underwater chatter of the Antarctic minke whale.

(...)

This is not the only acoustic puzzle that scientists have recently shed light on

Another baffling low frequency noise - called The Bloop - turned out to be the sound of Antarctica's ice cracking.

I find this subject absolutely fascinating. Bloop still weirds me out - still sure that's related to some kind of Drexciyan Wavejumper expedition awaking Cthulhu.

The researchers do not yet know under what circumstances the minke whales make their distinctive vocalisations, although the sounds that were recorded were produced close to the surface and before the mammals made deep dives to feed.

They saw a piece of chocolate cake.

Probably all iceburgs, but still intriguing.

Was just about to post this.

The bloop is a very interesting phenominon, but there have been noises somewhat like it recorded off iceburgs rubbing together.

The 'mysterious sea creature' would have to be fucking massive to emit that sound from what I read and the amount of food most likely needed to sustain a creature that much bigger than a whale would seem to be a little hard to come by without going all oregon trail and hunting the deep blue scare.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Thanks to this topic I've been reading about and collecting mysterious sounds for hours. Not oceanic, but still interesting:

This is awesome.

I would love to believe in weird EVP things, but I chose to not listen to my AM radio at odd hours on static to hear the moans of the dead,

Good article on that numbers station. Another fascinating incident, one that occurred over remote ocean Vela_Incident

I love this stuff btw, every once in awhile I end up binge-searching weird and unsolved stuff online, ending up on abovetopsecret or re-reading things about groom lake.

I love this one in particular, the idea that you can sometimes hear people pottering about in the background over a wash of static is super-creepy and IDM.
