Phonatacid digital download skips at 6:45

Recommended Posts

Can anyone confirm this is uniform throughout all download versions (non vinyl) of that track? If not, can I still redownload from the members area at Rephlex?

Digital vinyls.

:cisfor:

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Yours has a locked groove man. See if they will ship you a new digital vinyl.

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

OK, I properly reread the OP. The mp3 doesn't skip, but my FLAC has a little crackle between 6:45 and 6:46.

Have you tried to open the file with audacity? If it doesn't skip while you are listening with Audacity then try to export it in lower or higher kbps, that should fix the file.

Mine DOES!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!

This is, of course, referring to the Digital version that was purchasable from Rephlex.com.

Yeah, I have 01 and 02 from Rephlex, it's a pity there's a short expiry date on them. So, if you want another download, you'll need to purchase it again. :cerious:

Yeah, but the sites gone now and as usual Bleep don't seem to be in much of a position to try and make money from selling certain things we want, like say, Talk About You and Me in FLAC.

Does anyone have any idea how we can get replacement lossless copies?

Mine doesn't.

Same here man.

vinyl rip?

Nope, bought from Rephlex.

Mine does too, not so much a skip but it sounds as if the track has been split at that point and the two clips are a few milliseconds apart.

This can only mean one thing: new album on the horizon

Weren't the hi quality files that Rephlex was selling "unmastered"? If so, the skip might stem from the original mix tracks? Could be that problem was fixed in mastering for the vinyl pressing.

So I opened my WAV in Audacity and yes, the digital download does indeed have an error. It's not a skip, but more like a glitch (and thankfully, an entirely-correctable one). See this screenshot of the waveform:

The issue is a small bit of silence as highlighted in the image. The soundwave drops flat at one point and picks back up where it left off after after about 0.01 seconds of silence. By zooming in closely enough and splicing that silence out, you should have a perfectly clean and undamaged waveform, good as new. I have no clue how this glitch appeared, but it was obviously during the process of digitizing the tapes because this problem doesn't exist on the record (not to mention such a "clean" glitch probably couldn't appear on analogue equipment to begin with). So don't fret, this is not "damage" per se - just a correctable annoyance.

Two days ago, I found the exact same thing, and removed the silence, but the section sounds kinda scruffy and skippy in spite of the gap having been removed. Maybe I'll try again...

You have to be very precise in splicing the silence out, so zoom in as far as you can to get down to the individual samples next time you try.

I love fixing stuff I paid money for. Really makes me want to support these businesses in the future.

The trick is knowing what not to pay for.

Awesome, fixed mine! Just as your Audacity screenshot showed, my WAV file had the silent samples in the exact place yours did (6:45.583 to 6.45.594). I deleted them and now the waveform is perfect! Re-encoded to FLAC and I can finally sleep at night :music:
