chim
It totalled into near 3500 usd. Whew! I've got everything but the mixer, i'm supposed to get it at thursday. Here is the purchase list. 2x Tannoy Reveal 8D studio monitors Mackie 1402VLZ PRO mixer Alesis ADAT AI3 analog/optical interface RME Hammerfall Sontronics STC 2 microphone with stand and shit got cables and shit for free The guys at the store were professionals, talked looong about how this stuff works, the best equipment etc. I got a really fucking good impression of the Tannoy Reveal's. Compared to different monitors and they stood far out from the crowd. Huge as hell but i guess i'll have to reorganise my room eventually. The suggested i get an RME (thanks moon) Hammerfall card and connect it to an Adat AI3 analog/optical interface, which would then be conneted to the mixer and go out to the mic and the tannoys etc. Thanks again moon for suggesting the Mackie 1402, it seemed like the far best! roxxorz I'm wondering though, now as i'm waiting for the mixer, could I connect this stuff (except the mic which needs a preamp thats in the mixer) just so i could listen with the monitors? I've got two analog cables going out to the tannoys, two optical that is going in and out of the hammerfall card and the ADAT thing. How should I connect this because I can't seem to get it right. The ADAT is in optical in mode and the tannoys are connected in the analog output of the ADAT. Please any pointers would be of great help. I checked out a few of the synths they had at the store as well, they didn't have that many to try out. But there was a fucking sequential circuits prophet 5 there! It sounds soooo great. Really amazing sound. I'm thinking of buying it but it's just a little less than a Nord lead 3 which i also tried out, had lots of capabilities but i dunno, when you compared to the sound of the prophet 5 it was just way out of league. There was a phantom XR which had tons of sounds and shit but it seemed like i could get most of that stuff out of a VST to be honest. What do you recommend? Should i spend the remaining cash on an analogue toy or something that's more versatile and modern? chim
Ok i checked with some dj who is only remotely aware of this stuff and he guesses i cant because i need an amp, i.e the mixer. all i'm getting outta the speakers is noise right now when i turn them on and have a certain connection. is this correct? Guest Duke Remington
are your monitors active or passive? if they are active ,there should be a volume knob because they have an amp inside and you can connect directly, but i woyuld really wait for the mixer if youre still not used to your equipment. oh and buy the prophet 5. it is a sure value, synth wise, but will also go up in price anyway, the nord will just go down. however the p5 might need good care and annual repair. check if the oscillators are stable on this model, ask if it was opened, etc. check some vintage synth sites to know what you have to look for when buying a used synth and particulartly the p5. happy music making! oh and wait for the mixer if you want to know how to connect all your stuff, they have a few suggestions and possibilities in the manual, schemas, etc. AND READ THE MANUALS!!!!!!!!!!!! chim
It's definitely opened, its right there in the store. they just wrap it up basically. its in very good condition though thanks for your reply. they are active. so you think it should work? i just dunno about how i should connect the alesis ADAT optical/analog interface Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/8324-derelicsevens-intergalactic-hardware-romp-pt-2/#findComment-168821 Share on other sites
Guest Duke Remington
what i meant by open it is if it has had any reparations done on it by the store when they got it. i mean open the actual synth, not the orignial box of the synth if that's what you understood i was saying. i dont know much about your interface. check the manual. but remember: digital outputs goes to digital inputs, optical to optical, analog to analog.
