Guest Snazzell
Any idea on where this was shot? I know it's most likely in the west of the USA (California, Arizona, New Mexico)? Guest Snazzell
Ahh, so he doesn't want anyone to know where it is. I wanted to know because it looks so dreadful and barren. I like abandoned places anyway. joshuatxuk
The video was shot, and likewise the listening party and clues were all around Yermo That shot of the water tower and what appears to be a base is likely Marine_Corps_Logistics_Base_Barstow That entire region is full of military and government complexes, some abandoned and some still operating, and likewise ghost towns of different eras litter the region. The mojave desert region (where it was shot) is full of abandoned communities from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and before that ghost towns from the 19th century. High desert of California, the mountains of Nevada, the basin of New Mexico - all of these areas are strikingly similar: sparse, desolate, remarkably beautiful to many, and all very much connected to things like the atomic age, classified government programs relating to the space race and cold war (and source of UFO conspiracies), new age mysticism tied to the regions Native American culture, etc. It was a perfect backdrop for a Boards of Canada album. Ragnar
isn't it that place in malcolm in the middle where they wandered onto a nuclear testing site and they realize all the people in the town are actually dummies and are dodging all these explosions and survive somehow Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Ragnar's signature Hide all signatures http://djsaint-hubert.bandcamp.com/ Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/83260-anyone-know-the-desert-or-location-in-which-the-reach-for-the-dead-video-was-shot/#findComment-2158884 Share on other sites

I saw an abandoned gas station in the middle of nowhere Georgia USA and had to stop and take a look around. It was a gas station where people stopped on their way to Disney World in the 1980's. It had a sign that said "Camper Fuel." Lots of excited kids passed through that station. But it's a relic now. Nothing is permanent. Everything is dying. Nothing is real. PlatrixECV
I think some of it also a bit to the south of Yermo - by the Salton Sea. Another area of largely abandoned towns/ structure. The Slaton Sea was "accidentally created" and was briefly a resort spot but now the salinity is something like 10x that of the dead sea. Guest crowder
If you're just looking for a cool place to explore, there are a lot of abandoned towns in California and the Mojave in Nevada. I remember reading about and looking at photos of one where a city was planned and partly constructed, but never settled. There are also some weird little towns of people who just moved out into the desert in trailers for no obvious reason. Both are very reminiscent of the Fallout series.
