Adding line inputs without having to shell out for preamps.

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if you guys might be able to suggest what I can try.

I have a Focusrite 2i2 that I'm using at the moment which I'm very happy with, but I've accumulated more gear so I need more line inputs. Ideally I'd like to be able to run my 101, Juno, Mopho, Volcas and mic simultaneously and record them to separate tracks in Ableton, with the possibility of adding more hardware in to the mix in the future. I'm only ever going to use one Mic input at a time, and as I already have 2 good preamps in the 2i2 I really want to avoid paying for loads of preamps I'm never going to use. Does anybody know any simple, cheap interfaces with only line inputs that I could use in conjunction with the 2i2? If that's not possible, what's my best option to get the result I want? Quality is not really an issue as I will most likely just be using this to sequence the tracks, then recording each one individually with the trust 2i2. Basically this is what I want;

Alesis Multimix USB perhaps? 8 or 16..rackmount edition..they come quite cheap

That looks pretty good, I might have to go for one. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to get a mixer as I already have one (although it doesn't have a PC connection) but I don't think I'll find anything cheaper than that. Thanks!

Behringer Firepower FCA1616 :)

also combining (and less so swapping) interfaces can lead to digital weirdness, so i'd probably try to get one that can cover it all

Don't get it, if you already have a mixer then synths -> mixer -> sound card -> speakers

or soundcard + synths -> mixer -> speakers

You can worry about recording them one by one when finished.
