HATE - Bad History

I remember someone giving me a few HATE tracks and I liked em, then I forgot to go back and look them up.

But I hadn't any idea that it was Andy Stott at the time,but I love me some Jungle.

i never really checked this HATE stuff out, but it actually sounds pretty good from the samples (and that track you posted chassis). Ordered the cassette, mostly out of curiosity.

The HATE 12"s were, as the young 'uns say these days, 'quite good'. One of my favourites from the series:

Also, worth pointing out that it's not just Andy Stott, and not even just Andy and Miles Whittaker, but also Gary Howell (aka G.H.), whose 2011 12" for Modern Love is brilliant but inexplicably ignored here (find the thread, I seem to remember it has about 3 replies).

And I guess this confirms that Boomkat's original declaration about the label was, in fact, bullshit. Not that anyone necessarily believed them in the first place...

Same thing as that Science of the Sea release from a while back.

It's pretty sad when you have to rely on marketing bullshit to hype up your stuff, especially when the music itself is more than capable. I always follow the rule re: press releases that if something sounds a bit too good to be true, it probably is.

I don't necessarily think any harm is done in mythologizing new material in this way - it's kind of fun I guess, and many people (i.e. the real enthusiasts and 'experts') will usually see through it. That Juergen Mueller thing (hadn't heard of that before) is at least a bit more imaginative than the HATE legend.

Good point, I didn't know who G.H. was but I'll be giving his ML release a look now.

Cool, I still love this one track I found through a mix by VLR in 2009 (Rave New Year), just stunning:

I never bothered to dig into this, so yeah, I totally believed it at the time.

My copy arrived today, looks like there were 400 copies going by the numbering on the insert. The 'klart decided to send it to me in a glorified taped-up bin bag, which isn't really too clever for sending a fragile cassette case packed in thin cardboard... but it miraculously survived the Royal Mail.

In my recent experience, cassettes usually come packaged like this... can't say it's ever been a problem...

Man I'm so angry I didn't grab this when it was available.

If anyone here snagged a copy (jasondonervan, etc.), I'd happily pay you for a digital rip of both sides.

I would be more interested in purchasing it directly from the label, or artist, but I'm concerned that the material isn't going to resurface.

I just listened to a rip of the cassette and the sound was quite bad, and then I found the soundcloud upload and it was almost too blown out, so a mix between the two would be great, haha. Never satisfied I guess. Great little set though.

There's quite a bit of distortion on some of the breaks, I think I remember the blurb saying the breaks were found on old tapes so I assume thats why they sound like that.
