Problem with my DX9 - Sysex broken?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I have a problem with my DX9 and maybe someone here can explain me something (you have to read first though...).

I'm trying to export my DX9 "voices" (patches) as a Sysex file but can't manage to get the thing working. I use MIDI-OX, a direct MIDI connection between the synth and my computer, I follow the instructions given both on this page and into the synth's manual... But when I get to the last step of the procedure (pushing YES key when the screen displays MIDI TRANSMIT? - which should perform a "bulk dump"), i get a ~1 second blank screen, then directly back to this MIDI TRANSMIT? screen. In the meanwhile, MIDI-OX, which is configured to wait for sysex messages doesn't get anything (it does receives a list of message though when I do the MIDI transmit but they are no sysex messages).

A couple of things I did which helps understanding the problem :

- I already succeeded in saving some patches that way about one year ago. I was using exactly the same configuration and I can't remember any problem showing up.

- I tried receiving a bulk dump from my CS1X in the exact same config and it worked well. I don't remember how long the bulk dump should last on the DX9 but it's probably relevant to notice that the bulk dump of the CS1X lasted ~1 minute.

- I tried to load a voice from a sysex file to the DX9 and it also worked well. Like the DX9 is able to receive sysex but not to transmit it anymore.

- Between the first time I (successfully) backed up my DX9 patches into sysex files and today where I'm trying hard to do it again, I made three or for gigs with this synth, and it took a shock once which broke its volume fader. We had to open it on the stage and make a soldering which bypassed the volume fader in order to be able to do the gig.

So in the end, as I really don't see what I'm doing wrong, I'm wondering if it could be that the DX9 took a shock which broke a little thing inside, the consequence of that being that it's not able to send sysex messages anymore (although it can still receive some...)? I'm not so familiar with electronics so I don't know how realistic this is. Or maybe I'm simply missing something in the procedure but WHAT??

thanks for reading,

Antape
