Apart from adult contemporary sonic insults with the overall direction of the mix, the underlying chorus is quite catchy, very warm. I'd say he originally wrote the song for a faster tempo. Speed it up, add electroish vibe and drum and bass and you've got mega hit cover.

I thought this thread was about Frank Black inventing The Smiths...
