Just in case anyone's interested in learning Max and lives in Northern Ireland I’m giving a workshop on using MaxMSP/ Jitter for interactive installation in Belfast next month. It's more from a visual arts's than music perspective but I'll be covering sound (as well as video, sensors, interfacing with Arduino / other software). It's being taught over 3 evenings and I'm happy to try and cater for whatever interests the people who show up have. Here’s the blurb from the website:

This workshop is aimed at beginners / intermediate users of MaxMSP/Jitter. In it you will learn

- The basics of computer vision which can be used to track objects like an audience in a gallery space with a webcam.

- How to use an xbox kinect to track hand and body movement from multiple users.

- Use an Arduino with Max to make use of electronic sensors in an installation.

- How to record and import sounds, layer them and create effects.

- Importing pre-made videos and using real time effects on them.

- Strategies for mapping sensor data to audio visual effects, building depth and variety into your work.

- Approaches to experimenting and building things in MaxMSP/Jitter that can be extended to other digital arts languages.

Over 3 evenings we will work towards an interactive installation using sensors to control sound and video. Participants should bring any ideas, queries or MaxMSP/Jitter problems with them as Robin is happy to tailor the workshops around their specific requests.

Cost: £80 standard rate or £50 for members

Bookings: Places for workshops are limited so you must secure your place with payment no later than 3 days after booking. That's pretty awesome man, the very best of luck I hope it goes well. If you ever do a workshop in London I'll definitely be there. I just need a little kick to get me started on my Max adventure. I have bought a couple of rather large books but am finding them a little impenetrable...

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
