ambermonk
http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-27891883Wasn't sure whether to post this under Music Discussion or GenBan, because it's kind of relevant to either one.Anyway, needless to say, this is an unpopular move. I'm sure it would affect us as WATMM members as well. What do you think, is this part of a bigger picture? Should we boycott the 'Tube? delet...
I don't think we understand enough of what youtube is going to do to be able to comment yet. Surely these labels were currently receiving nothing for most of the videos uploaded containing their content, those videos that were unconnected to the official pages and probably without supported advertising. So as youtube states, now they'll be getting something. That is of course if anyone signs up to the streaming service. Will it be streaming the hard to find disco or electro or whatever that i might want to hear, does half this music even have it's licencing in order enough that youtube would make it available on the subscription service. So is the whole thing worthwhile at $10 a month in the first place. Certainly what they call indie i don't see as indie or more specifically underground/fringe/the bulk of the music created, i mean radiohead ffS. The good thing about youtube as it currently stands as you can hear some really obscure music that people upload and use that as a pivot to find more, how is that kind of stuff going to fit in the new model. Anyway, i won't be signing up, i don't like radio and only tend to look up music when i'm drinking which isn't very often.
