Hey all,

Long story short, guy in my band is wanting to use an iPad for some synth sounds and/or general fuckery. I'm a complete novice when it comes to using iPad's for music, but ideally we'd like to connect an M-Audio KeyRig49 keyboard and an AKAI LPD8 upto the iPad, which can then control a few different apps. Any recommendations for making this happen? I've seen that the camera connection kit is an option but I think that only offers one USB slot. Is it even possible to connect more than 1 device into an iPad?

Or are we better off getting some kind of audio interface for it which has some MIDI in options? Are most audio interfaces compatible with apps these days? Is there a standard I should look for that most apps work to?

We have a bit of a budget if that's of any relevance.

Cheers.

Oh gee, I didn't know I could use google to find an article from 3 fucking years ago with dead links in it. I almost thought this was a place that has provided me with excellent consumer advice in the past with various purchases from people who have actually got hands on experience with various things and therefore whose opinion I trust.

here's what works for me:

- Camera Connection Kit

- USB Hub with power supply

- hook up the hub to the CCK

done.

this way you can connect multiple USB MIDI/audio devices.. Generally the cheapest & most reliable solution. the only downer is that the iPad will run on battery.

Ok cool, will definitely consider that way, guess it just depends on the app how much battery it drains.

Whoops! Sorry! I guess I should have looked at what Google found for me when I googled it!

it says this thing is compatible with OSX/Windows, doesn't mention iPad.

it is bus-powered, all the connectors look nice but won't help you if the iPad rejects it due to too much power draw.

do not buys this.

also, if you ever plan to do anything with MIDI SysEx, do not buy any iConnect interface at all as they filter out SysEx messages.
