A Winged Victory For The Sullen have announced details of their second studio album, Atomos, out October 6th on Erased Tapes and Kranky.

The album was initially made for the Royal Ballet’s head choreographer, Wayne McGregor, who commissioned the work for his Random Dance company after hearing the group's self-titled debut album. (Atomos gets its title from McGregor's piece of the same name.) Recorded in the summer of 2013 across sessions in Brussels, Berlin and Reykjavik, it wasn’t until halfway through the process the duo realised it would also be their second studio album.

"We never imagined 2013 would be such an explosively creative year," says Dustin O'Halloran, one half of A Winged Victory For The Sullen alongside Adam Wiltzie. "The first record took us two years from start to finish, but in the microspan of time over last summer we were able to change the formula for the way we write, record, and let go."

"We had virtually no time for second guessing ourselves," adds Wiltzie, who also plays in drone outfit Stars Of The Lid. "We tried to balance the discordance between being creative, and fulfilling our duties for a commissioned soundtrack with a very strict deadline, and all the while staying true to our collective melancholy." The outfit bring electronic elements to the fore on Atomos, which was preceded by an EP called Atomos VII in April.

First album is one of my favourite records ever, so not sure whether to be pleasantly surprised or disappointed that this is going to be somewhat different - at least they're not going to get stale. Nice track, definitely.

i went to one of the live preview shows for atomos late last year, and thought the new material took a huge leap in the right direction.

Just got this - it's lovely. Truly music to soothe the savage beast. Composition skills of Wiltzie and O'Halloran keep on growing and the production is wonderful. Crisp, clean.

Have a feeling it will reward on repeat listens.

백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.
