Linux mint notebook vs Analog four

Recommended Posts

I'm running renoise 2.8 on a cheap Linux netbook. Not using it for sound but just to trigger external synths.
It works really well. 30 seconds to boot into renoise and I can use the step sequencer tool to make it a more simple interface. My question is why would you fork out cash for an Analog Four when a simple netbook will do the job and a whole lot more. Am I missing something here?

have you ever used an any Elektron stuff?

A notebook with a MIDI sequencer isn't a 4 voice polyphonic analogue synthesizer, and vice versa.

I personally plan to buy an A4 to offload my computer and widen my sound palette. I'm a huge fan of Five12 Numerology for all my MIDI duty, so I'll most likely control the A4 with Num... but will also happily dive into A4 sequencer and learn its strengths and quirks, and hopefully will combine both : best of both world.

And I'm impatient to blend the A4 with U-He Diva (that I know like the back of my hand and love), U-He Bazille (that I'm discovering more everyday, loads of fun) and my gathering dust Akai S1100. An Acidlab Miami or an Elektron Rytm would be perfect to complete that hybrid set-up. A nice blend of software and hardware, analogue and digital, DAW and hands on control.

Whatever works and inspires you, really !

Sorry my bad. I didn't mean to refer to synth functions, which I expect are pretty amazing. I meant the sequencing. Maybe should have compared to Doepfer dark time or things more similar.

I got it ! ;)

It would be quite a waste of money to buy an A4 only for its sequencer though (no matter how good it might be !), I totally agree with you.

Ive actually got Lins's setup, vst's with elektron stuff but with a modular as well. They all work brilliantly together

if you are just using the sequencer i would probably just use a computer. But i like different hardware sound and the elektron gear is desert island techno stuff for me

And that upcoming Elektron Overbridge technology will be neat to make that hybrid set-up work.

lala : you got the Rytm and A4, right ? Can I listen to any of your tunes with your current set-up ? I quite like (a lot !) what I've heard of the A4, and the fact that it can be so easily integrated in a DAW set-up is what makes it so desirable to me.

hardware sequencers are more tactile, but you could get a midi controller for your laptop instead. would be cheaper.

Definitely. I'm lucky (by chance) that so far all my synths and their knobs all support midi CC. That way I can record all the knob twizzles and play it back. That is so cool. Using a Korg Nanokontrol to twizzle all the knobs on my volca keys. Saves on knob wear and tear too :)

It's all about the knobs for me. Must be a Freudian slip.
