I want to use my old ps1 gamepad as an XY midi controller, anyone have any suggestions as to how I might go about this?

Would need some microcontroller fuckery probably, though im sure it's already been done and the code is online for me to swipe somewhere.

I've occasionally used my ps2 gamepad as a XY controller, but only within FL Studio, because it automatically recognises joysticks - I mapped the joysticks to the controls of a 303 VST, it was pretty cool but just not the same

I'm sure you'd be able to do it through midi, but I don't know how

you can use midiyoke and one of those little joy2midi or key2midi programs to get some things rolling. i've had some success with that but not totally. triggering live clips from a ddr pad is kinda fun.
