Keynell ae remix speed discrepency

Recommended Posts

Guest bitroast

Recently got my hands on Gescom - Keynell ae remix ep, and noticed track 2 is different speed on the vinyl than it is on bleep digital.

Totally an 'autism intensifies' thing to point out, but whatever, can anyone shed some light or ideas on whats going on with the speed difference?

it's only a small difference but for me the change in speed changes the overall groove and feel of the song. bleep fuck up? autechre messing with us??

vinyl = faster

digital = slower

yep, that youtube vid, the vinyl has been recorded at faster than normal speed.

please tell me you're not posing this question without actually owning the record?

nah nah nah !!

i own the record.

that youtube video is not mine, but it is definitely a correct recording of the record playing at 45rpm.

the record plays at a speed that's faster than the digital version on bleep.

play it at 33 and it's too slow, play it at 45 and its too fast.

the back of the sleeve says to play it at 45.

it's almost like the record is playing at 42 rpm to match the speed of the track in the bleep version..

is the bleep version too slow or is the speed on the record too fast ???

arhghhhhh!!

ahhh okay, I get ya.

Bleep have been known to fuck up files (Oberman Knocks Dilankex from Bleep, even though they sell a "24bit" version that is more expensive than the 16bit version, it's not actually 24bit at all), so I wouldn't put it past them to have made a cock up.

Personally, I would say that the vinyl is the definitive recording, until The 'chre can say otherwise!

I don't trust Bleep as far as I can throw them.

Bleep fixed the Oberman Knocks 24 bit files issue. Did you not receive the replacement files? Pretty Miserable situation if you ask ME.

hmm.

I had a shitty recording of the ep back in the day and think I actually noticed the speed difference when I purchased the bleep mp3s.

bleep being official and the rip I had sounding pretty fuzzy I decided to keep the bleep files and have since accustomed to the slower speed.

i'm now warming to the groovier, more playful vinyl version but i'm still curious as to which is 'correct' or how this even happened.

Yeah, this seems to happen often with AE related vinyl; iirc they said during AAA that the 'correct' speed wasn't written on the 'Why R Are Why' record deliberately.

I think that 45 rpm printed on vinyl labels is not correct speed. For my ears 33 is correct, 45 is too fast. These both tracks at 33 rpm is playing like a vibe the gescom keynell (four tracks release) imho.

here is keynell tracks at 33 speed http://dropmefiles.com/BxD8S

Some of these old vinyl only (originally) releases have definitely been ripped or remastered from a vinyl copy for sale on Bleep. You even hear some pops and crackles.

It's probably an issue of the master DATs being lost or fucked up and this is the only way to make them available.

I thought this might be the case, but I didn't wanna assume that the source files hadn't been used.

I can totally see this as being the case.

then again, Autechre like to throw a curveball - I have a track that Sean Booth has done, which has crackles put in it on purpose. not gonna say which track though :p

you be teasin' :emotawesomepm9:

bleep digitals being sourced from vinyl still doesn't explain why it's playing at such a random speed.

like they randomly decided to pitch the whole track down just for kicks?

I did a vinyl rip of the SND - Vandyk-k Integ Paradise vinyl, and the first time around I had fucked it up simply because the previous night I had been listening to some Ae at slower than normal pitch and forgot to reset the pitch slider.

It happens :music:

As for the Sean Booth track, I'm deadly serious.

Guest bitroast

lol im sure you are

* no sarcasm intended ! it's the internet and everything I write sounds like it has sarcasm. what I mean to say is, hehehe i'm absolutely sure you have an exclusive sean booth track or two that has vinyl deliberate vinyl crackle on it.

Edited by bitroast

I'm quite used to bleepspeed on this one, and it is far from unpleasant

the ending of keynell autechre mix 2 is pretty harsh at 45 rpm though, yowza mcbowza my fucking hair cells
