Ñaka Ñaka - Mundo Harsh

I'm loving the vinyl releases on Opal Tapes, and the Black Opal sub-label seems to be doing incredibly well. The third release on the label was added to Soundcloud yesterday (date is still TBA) and I've already fallen in love with it.

It's obviously heavily indebted to early AFX (85-92 / AB3 in particular), with really gorgeous haunting melodies and hissy lo-fi production, which is right up my street.

The third release in the Black Opal series see's Mexico City 2 Brooklyn expat Jeronimo Jimenez at his finest. The ghostly syncopations of his Opal Tapes debut are revisited again but this time the beats come charged with a new weight. 6 tracks of haunting techno, flickering metals and doomed synth set to probe into your skull.

 

References to older protags of this hardened ambient techno are obvious but not without merit. This is modern music recorded with an established method - Machines and pedals playing on to tape. Mounds of melody stack in soft piles, reminiscent of early Aphex. Snares volley into springs enwombing the compositions with an ashen sulk. There is a sense of majesty to some of the melodies, a sword from the icy lake.

 

Black Opal is proud to work with Ñaka Ñaka on this; his debut vinyl release. All sounds by Jeronimo Jimenez. Mastered by S. Bishop and designed by John Powell-Jones.

In answer to a few questions...

 

The Ñaka Ñaka 12" is due in about 7 weeks putting Black Opal back on schedule. This release will be joined by a repress of both BOP001 and 002 to sway the discogs cru from price jumps. There is a change in the design for the reissues to provide some differentiation...

 

These 3 records will all become available to pre-order at the same time to avoid ordering clashes. The second coming...
