Warp/Richard's release strategy to discourage piracy

Eureka! Forgive me if this idea is jazzband, but I think I have figured out the reason why this Aphex album won't leak, or why it will not matter if it does. See, a lot of labels or movie studios that don't want their stuff pirated make fake versions of things and pass them on the net as real. This floods the torrent bays with a bunch of nonsense, effectively frustrating wannabe pirates enough to actually buy the album. I'm sure it works for some, but anyway, this is a well known strategy.

Well check it out....everybody knows (including Warp and Richard) that fans are going to create fake versions of these songs right away upon release. So what do they do to help this process even more? They released the tracklisting, bpm, EVERYTHING early.

Think about it. This is genius, as they know people would put fakes on the net with the exact same song titles (and sometimes even BPM matching!) and the torrent sites get flooded with correctly named crap well before the release date, which achieves the desired effect of annoying the fuck out of all the wannabe pirates!

Yes, who knows how well this strategy will work (dedicated pirates don't care and will keep searching till they find real shit), but still. Can i be onto something here?

Or maybe it has to do with the theme of the release, in that many of the statistics of the tracks are labelled, including the gear

ingenuitive use of album art actually, the receipt offers the opportunity for the warning which results in this, 7 days before release and no leak. undoubtedly it means more orders.

"discouraging piracy" is a funny phrase because the day the album drops it will have like 400 seeders on the piratebay

that happened to tool with 10,000 days. people were saying the leak was a decoy album, deriding it. their best album yet imo

tool is great if you divvy their entire discography into a 10 track mixtape. otherwise you'll think you've been hearing the same song for 30 minutes. 10'000 days was my shit when it came out. loved that 3D compact disc case that came with the 3D glasses!

Saw Tool at Bonnaroo, that show was other wordly.

It's not a bad strategy but also has undesirable side effects

For instance, lots of people who are new to AFX might think that the fakes are real, and when they listen to it and hear how shit the fakes are they will think aphex twin is shit and will tell all their mates etc. how shit afx is even though its just fake. And before u know it all the ppls think aphex is shit cos of fake shit track wannabe ppls
