Is anybody doing music similar to RDJ's earlier work?

Recommended Posts

Just curious. The emulators (myself included) tend to gravitate toward is later beat-fuckery music, but is anybody doing music similar to his early to mid 90's stuff like SAW I or the AB series? If so I'd like to hear it.

Tried to emulate the surfing on sinewaves style a few times, never with great success. I wish there was more of that music.

Sean Ae yeah so many of these analogue forums are people 90% bragging ang 10% uploading tracks that go fdghfgdhfddhgasfgdsfdsahfdfhdsgfgds

very nice reminds me of aphex classics

I've been looking for stuff like this recently too, and I agree there tends to be a prevalence of later RDJ-worship as opposed to the earlier style. Whilst I'll assume you know the usual suspects (Bochum Welt as stated above, Cylob, Vulva etc.), CJ Bolland often gets overlooked in these discussions, especially his "Electronic Highway" album:

More obscurely I saw this mentioned somewhere (may have even been on this forum, can't remember):

Ijo - Rown#4

https://archive.org/details/Ijo-Rown4envnet004

and this was an interesting little thing I found recently on Bandcamp, bit of an Aphex feel in places:

Tagwell Woods - WT17

I'd be interested to see more too.

Really cool artist. Anyone remember that topic about SAW II production techniques?

have you heard Cylob's full length Bounds Green on Weme?

some of Milieu's stuff from about 4 years ago reminded me a lot of SAWII

edit: whoops just realized you said Saw I not sawII. Not a big fan enough fan of that album to have helpful advice

In here, I don't think so mate... http://blackopal.bigcartel.com/product/naka-naka-mundo-harsh

Not completely SAW I-ish, but I've recently re-discovered Global Goon's Vatican Nitez. I forgot how much I love that album.

from the same era but most afx non afx track i know

wow this is awesome.

this is why i joined watmm, to find new music.

Yeah agree with the Weme advice, they have plenty of drexciyan vibes, deep hardware techno. Also Opal are worth digging in, they have plenty of great experiemental albums. would check out 1991, huerco s, cloudface, austen ceasar, patricia and cop the VA eps for $1 each or sometihng http://opaltapes.bandcamp.com/

well worth a dig. glad to see they are going vinyl though.. some of its not entirely like of afx but its a similar evolution of the sound in my opinion.

would also check out the canadian labels Mood Hut and Forbidden Planet. great ambient techno/house. Mono Junk on FP is great, oldschool Finnish producer i believe, seems to use a pretty standard 90's studio setup which gets similar sounds to the saw 1 lp.

the lndcroy tape on 1080p is great.

This for me could be off saw I. classic l.i.e.s. Well worth digging through their back catalogue for some amazing techno and noise, plenty of great music to dig through from hard house to ambient techno to straight up noise.

awesome ludd. all great stuff dudes.

I'm going to attempt a SAW I type of track tonight just for the hell of it. Do one too if you're a person who's down for fun.
