mechane11
Hello there I've found that basically seeing if you can produce a track in the same vein as someone else's is a good way of learning various techniques. Here's my crack at the Richard D James Album. It's a tad slower, but other than that, it's basically Girl/Boy Song. Hence the name. Hugh Mughnus
I actually really like this. Very nice. Nice homage but very different breaks than boy/girl song. Yours is more jungle with traditional amenry. Boy/girl song is diff. You know this already anyway, don't know why I'm typing it. fxbip
Very nice, i think the melodies complete each other pretty well and amen is well handled. mechane11
I know what you mean about the amen, Stephen, I just took a different approach when slicing it up, basically. I just thought it was quite interesting that the basic elements of Girl/Boy, which probably took Aphex Twin ages to do in the 90s, can pretty easily be achieved in about a half hour nowadays. Cheers for the feedback. Hugh Mughnus
Definitely! But I wonder, would it be so easy to achieve if other artists had not paved the way? Can you imagine being the first person to have a specific sound, like the first guy to make a jungle track or something? It must be so difficult to be original these days =/ really cool track though thanks Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Hugh Mughnus's signature Hide all signatures On 1/19/2020 at 4:27 PM, Richie Sombrero said: Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Tricone RC
Qute nice, that! Could do with a slightly stronger melody, perhaps, that develops a bit more etc The idea is an interesting one, it made me think of something like Elgar's Enigma Variations where you have several pieces based on the same theme - you could do a whole series of reinterps like this of Girl/Boy or any other track (if you are feeling pretentious enough) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/85254-orchestral-jungle-like-the-mid-90s/#findComment-2236542 Share on other sites
sweepstakes
Cool exercise but I am having a hard time swallowing the notion that this is "basically Girl/Boy Song." I mean, I can definitely hear the resemblance but emotionally and even aesthetically they are miles away. The melody is the biggest difference to me, probably because that melody meant a whole hell of a lot to me at a certain time in my life. Please understand that I'm criticizing your statement of equivalence more than your track here, and maybe the original didn't do for you what it did for me. Anyway, not to disparage your effort; it's really not bad for 30 minutes' worth. It might be an even cooler exercise to now take this and examine what's different between the two and maybe make a second pass at this and change some of the things you've done here. calx
Nice that :) And yeah, it's fine to be inspired by something but this sounds original and fresh in its own right. sun drugs
nice man, im a big jungle fan, love hearing some slower breaks. I can see the rdj influence in the melodies, not overly in the breaks but you made it not me! great work, you got some other nice stuff on the SC page too Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/85254-orchestral-jungle-like-the-mid-90s/#findComment-2236918 Share on other sites
mechane11
Cheers lads! This is all very lovely of you. I feel I now need to address my 'basically Girl/Boy' comment now- I wrote it not because I think the melody/breaks are insanely similar, it's just that it has very similar components- plucked violins, a cello part underneath, subtle sub-bass (not in Girl/Boy but elsewhere on that album) and the Amen break. Perhaps I was a little brash in my original comment, hope this clears it up. Cheers Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/85254-orchestral-jungle-like-the-mid-90s/#findComment-2237182 Share on other sites
