It'll be their first since 2011's Wasting Light.

WOW i am revved up about this one how about you WATMM?

Fun facts about The Foo Fighters:

1: the band started in 1995

2: The band were named the Foo Fighters after a World War II secret force that allegedly researched UFOs.

3: Dave Grohl was the former drummer of legendary grunge band Nirvana until their frontman Kurt Cobain died and they broke up.

4:Dave played all instruments on his first self titled album.

5: Taylor Hawkins is the drummer for the Fooies, but he also co-wrote and sang on their "In Your Honour" double album.

6: While he was drumming with Nirvana, Dave Grohl was recording original songs at home that never received public release. Those tapes would become the foundation of the Foo Fighters, the band he formed in 1995, after the death of Kurt Cobain.

lol @ donk, new member smell but has some proto passive aggressive irony going on, so that might end well.

Also, bbc has been already been showing their new music with a documentary series on iplayer, i think they're up to nashville or something. i watched the first ep, they were in steve albini's studio, the ok go or some band guy said how he wrote a letter to albini asking for tips on how to build a studio and albini wrote some super detailed with drawing thing back and they had communicated since in this manner as the band guy built more studios. Albini apparently in the punk ethos way doesn't ask for more than an engineers fee for the time taken to record an album and obs studio time, so he doesn't get royalties from In Utero etc, as other engineers/producers would have.

Anyway the episode was half interesting and half fluffy bullshit about chicago's music heritage. actually 3/4's bullshit, maybe more. I've never been a foo fighters fan, but you can feel some sort of empathy for what's going on, and grohl has always seemed like a nice kid. lol when i used to busk, someone said that i looked like him, anglos don't see many people with dark hair and long faces.

I actually love the foo fighters. Seen them 3 times now. What I've heard of the new album I quite like so I'll probably pick it up. Didn't like their last effort Wasting Light, nothing really memorable from it

this is a valuable insight into albinis mind and a taste of what can be explored with this record:

'I don't give two splats of an old negro junkie's vomit for your politico-philosophical treatises, kiddies. I like noise. I like big-ass vicious noise that makes my head spin. I wanna feel it whipping through me like a fucking jolt. We're so dilapidated and crushed by our pathetic existence we need it like a fix ... Big Black is a way to get the old blood to boiling without having to buttfuck and garrotte little boys, or hang around slaughterhouses. It's as simple as that. I want to push myself, the music, the audience and everything involved as close to the precipice as possible. Although I'm kinda worried about what we'll find there. All the coolest pioneers of this noise spirit seem to have made the trip to the extreme, been unable, or unwilling, to push on, and tossed in the towel. SPK and PiL on Elektra Records, for Christ's sweet little boy buttfuck murder's sakes. Alan Vega making a disco 12" with Ministry backing him up. The Stranglers using string sections. Colin Newman putting a kibosh on a Wire reunion because his fucking guru told him to leave music forever. Hüsker Dü sounding like Buffalo Springfield, Bad Company, King Crimson and Hüsker Dü, all on the same record. Is there something out there that signals, "Hey, that's enough. You've pushed the boundaries far enough. Time to go home and suck for a while." I want to find out. If Big Black suck in a year's time, you can assume there is. And I'd like to apologize in advance for any 12" scratch/dub/breakdance remixes we might make.'

Albini was paid $2 million for In Utero, that's a heck of an engineer's fee.

Lol, they din mention that in the doco, puts a different spin on it, he was taking an upfront lump sum on future earnings then.

In Utero is my favourite Nirvana album actually. Fuck knows where they would have gone from there if the band had carried on - I suspect Mr. Cobain would have descended further into darkness if he had lived a while longer and been able to record a few more albums.

Dave may have even left the band to do his own shit anyway, he was obviously full of talent / ideas.

straight up loud noisy rock band stuff certainly has its place but what's with complaining when a band wants to do something a little different?

didn't albini do the worst sounding godspeed record Yanqui?

I dunno but the Explosions In The Sky album he did was terrible imo

edit: wait, I can't figure out which one it was now.. maybe it was Godspeed I was thinking of..

all the godspeed albums are terrible, how can you choose one over the other, they all reside within the foetid confines of the armpits of a bulbous sweaty concubine from the squalid shanty towns of hell.
