Guest skibby
the unmastered sounds nicer to me, the arrangement is really alien sounding, and abrasive for extended times. everything sounds mainly on center except for a few elements, rather hear some stereo tricks sometimes. dont understand the mastering preoccupation. want to hear greater separation of bass, want to hear more moving filter cutoffs. chim
It's going to be hard to comment on experimental audio but I'm going to give you my honest opinion. First issue is that your track is peaking at 0.0db and I detected intersampling peaks as high as +0.9. Having a peak of 0.0db is not a crime against humanity, but it will make the audio suffer needlessly from transcoding and soundcloud/itunes. It's mostly acceptable for the internet, but hardware DAC's out there don't like 0.0, and that high level of intersampling peaks will create distortions not only in mp3 transcoding, but in analog reconstruction of the signal, and might tear the hell out of anybody unfortunate enough to be listening on an unsuitable DAC. I don't really need to be throwing these numbers at you, because the audio is so distorted that I consider the song unlistenable, most around 1:30 and 2:40. Mixing wise, the high hats are sharp but the bass drum is buried under the mix. There are a ton of peaks around 100-400hz that contribute to a muddy, unclear feeling, and the instruments are all struggling for center stage as the track lacks a decent stereo field, which I assume is from mixing on headphones. Classic standards of average loudness levels don't really apply in electronic music anymore, and opinions on ISP vary wildly as some accept ISP's as high as +3db, but I personally believe that most of the time, a peak target higher than -0.3db and very occasional +0.2db of ISP is pushing it too far. At any rate it's best to use your ears, some artists get away with awfully high peaks but it needs serious engineering magic.
