ive just got a multi touch laptop

Recommended Posts

Wow this thing is fun

The only lacking thing is not being able to turn multiple knobs on vsts in the host but there is a controller program in trying out with a midi looper that appears to be quite neat.

Workflow is loads faster!

Anyone else got one & know any good midi controllers for the pc?

Have you tried the new FL studio ? It has multi touch capability on a large part of the program, the ableton style clip mode, the piano roll and several synths in the program respond to multitouch. Also check out this thread, I tested out a bunch of music making programs for Windows 8 and gave a verdict on how they respond to the touch screen. Somebody else came in and suggested a program called Usine which is almost akin to a Lemur like Ipad front end but it can also do a bunch of DSP processing on top of being a multi touch layered midi controller.

Yeah I use fruity already :)

Someone has suggested audulus which has a modular node type approach & I can run it inside FL. & I'm enquiring about flowstone if it's possible to make multitouch controllers

Hopefully vsts will get updated so you can multitouch the knobs soon

Hi gorgeous

But seriously it's really intuitive & fast, much more so than using a mouse. I've just bought a multi-button mouse & after about half an hour wondered why I bothered. Maybe for gfx work the mouse will be useful but for daw work - fingers seem best.

yeah, as John Ehrlichman just linked, there was a discussion around touch screen laptops and Windows 8. The prospects seem good, but yeah... VST devs need to make touch screen modes for their stuff.

There's nothing wrong with having multiple modes of control, use them all - touch screen, mouse (including mousewheel and key combos), LeapMotion (which is pretty interesting), etc...

yep! currently trying to find a way to get a multitouch controller within FL, if audulus or flowstone work that would be great.

im using xotopad & virtual piano with a midi loopback. it works ok, not as elegant as id like but seems good for making tunes on the go

I got a Toshiba p50t b113 , its good, but 5400rpm hd (!) which is being upgraded to an ssd asap. Only had thing about it. Was 999. The 10k model is being phased out so that might be a good deal if you can get it cheap. Better than the Lenovo, which has a bad screen. Colour on the Toshiba is 100% gamut. Important for me as i do art.

I wanted an Asus nx500 but they are 1800 & is rather spend what ive saved on a new synth.

Great laptop! These are 4k screens btw. Not really needed unless you like bleeding edge stuff like I do. I have to run in 1080p which is a bit blurry until everyone sorts out their software

Alright thanks for the info man

SSD is a good call too, still running a normal HD as well

It's a good thing DAWs are not real resource hogs though
