various mixes of modular-synth worship

anyway, lets stay 'on-message',,,,,,

The following mixes were recently done after recuperating from a near-fatal car-crash just before solstice last summer (awww bless). Wouldn't recommend it. To keep myself sane busy in the months that've followed (and with help from my kid bro) i had a dig through various record crates that hadn't seen the light of day in far, far too long. One group who stood out among my opiate-addled mind were Coil (rip), who had a way with modular synths like few others could ever get close to. Soooo, one thing lead to another & even with 2 crushed legs, a crushed pelvis & various other breaks & cuts, with the careful assemblage of various cushions i managed to knock out some mixes that cover the better elements of their catalog, combined with other releases that delve into richly textured tones & vocal weirdness. Add 2 belt-drive decks, a cdj, a slightly wonky 3-channel mixer, various vinyls, large doses of Oramorph & Codeine, diet coke, tea & biscuits and a rascal Jack Russell,,,,these are the end results. Nice one - Just started listening to Coil (Time Machines) and was pretty impressed, was thinking of trying some more. These look like just the thing.

they were a strange bird indeed, but unsurpassed if you concentrate on the melodies rather than some of Mr Balance's's's more vocal esoteric ramblings,,,,,,if ENO had made some of these tunes you'd never hear the end of it. Plus they covered so many bases with their music.....always associated them with the more interesting currents that circulated here with the arrival of acid house, eg: Love's Secret Domain. But its when they recruited TPS that they really seemed to hit their stride. Check the Sonar set from Barcelona, the ep with Magnetic North on it,,,,,,,Moon's Milk or Under an Unquiet Skull (part one) and the thing they did for Derek Jarman's "A Journey to Avebury"......genius. Even their ANS release (the full lp, not the abridged version), which is a bit of a fail for me personally, has some superb moments. I just tried tried to do the music justice & match some bits with other releases that i never tire of, Jon Hasell being a prime example, Can, Chris & Cosey, Cabaret Voltaire, William Burroughs obviously....

if yer looking for a read find "England's Hidden Reverse" (Amazon about £20) which is about a thorough an investigation of pagan inspired electronica as its possible to find......

in fact just make your own mind oop int it.......;)
