I was going to say it was always mega obvious he was a druggie but from that story it seems like his personal life took a drastic turn for the worse relatively recently, that's sad indeed.

Oh man, what a shit situation. I don't know much about the drug dealing scene, so I have to assume the dealer in question would not just take the money owed and call it good? Surely 808 State can come up with 300 quid?!?

I'm guessing it wasn't a one-off debt. Cocaine addiction really fucks up lives.

crack addiction especially which i'm guessing was the problem, that can very very quickly spiral out of control

Use of either form can spiral out of control. Only difference is status vs. stigma.
