This can be huge news : NASA-WARP FIELD

Recommended Posts

So i was listening to this podcast and they were talking about this article

http://mysteriousuniverse.org/2015/04/nasa-may-have-accidentally-developed-a-warp-drive/

---

If they can verify the results this is huge news for humanity, 50 to 100 years from now interstellar travel could be possible, and we were alive to see the birth.

Good timing, I'm writing a book about how we figure out a way to go faster than light and it turns out to perhaps be true. How prescient!

Since the site is down, which is suspicious, here's the jist:

"NASA and other space programs were working on prototypes of the EmDrive or RF resonant cavity thruster invented by British aerospace engineer Roger J. Shawyer. This propulsion device uses a magnetron to produce microwaves for thrust, has no moving parts and needs no reaction mass for fuel. In 2014, Johnson Space Center claimed to have developed its own low-power EmDrive.

Which brings us to todays warp field buzz. Posts on NASASpaceFlight.com, a website devoted to the engineering side of space news, say that NASA has a tool to measure variances in the path-time of light. When lasers were fired through the EmDrives resonance chamber, it measured significant variances and, more importantly, found that some of the beams appeared to travel faster than the speed of light. If thats true, it would mean that the EmDrive is producing a warp field or bubble. Heres a comment from a space forum following the tests:

Thats the big surprise. This signature (the interference pattern) on the EmDrive looks just like what a warp bubble looks like. And the math behind the warp bubble apparently matches the interference pattern found in the EmDrive.

What happens next? To prove that the warp effect was not caused by atmospheric heating, the test will be replicated in a vacuum. If the same results are achieved, it seems to mean that the EmDrive is producing a warp field, which could ultimately lead to the development of a warp drive."

Positive Metal Attitude

Shit, from the title of this thread, I thought NASA was collab'ing with Warp on a release called "Field." I immediately thought that it's gonna be amazing or fucking retarded.

Yeah, but this is pretty cool, too.

Also, on seeing the thread title I thought it was going to be about some collaboration between Warp records and NASA: some kind of space record, sending IDM out into space, aliens dancing to some Syro.

I love this sentence.

We used a cylindrical cavity for the warp-field interferometer instead of a frustum shape because we didn't want to create a force with this unit, but instead we needed just a large densification of the Q-V along the active path length of the laser beam while it was traversing the resonant cavity's centerline volume.

Sounds well IDM.

Naw, not any time soon. There have been various 'working' models of warp bubble-type stuff for decades, but the necessary technology, and more importantly the sheer amounts of energy required, has always been out of reach. It likely will be for quite some time, if it's ever possible at all.

Yah, it sounds like Richard Devine's senior yearbook quote.

The site seems to work fine for me. Maybe it was just down temporarily.

Pretty revolutionary if Star Trek-style warp travel technology is actually within reach. I'm aware of a theory of space travel in which the crew members would be kept in cryogenic stasis @ the embryonic phase over the distance of several thousand light years, but I'm sure a warp drive would circumvent that.

maybe go to the nasa forum i linked, all the information is there, its all very dense tho, the article in the OP does an okay job at condensing all the info so far.
